Ok What Happened to....

Ok just a stupid question, but on the earlyer model year MINI's you could get a latger cup holder installed i guess at the dealer it was mounted on the pillar of the center console.

Yes i know it is huge and kind of gaudy but.....

sometimes people want to have coffee or something else to drink in a size other than the one that comes with the McDonalds kidi meal.

Any whay what happened to it??

do you think there will be something improved for the new mini
mine is on order god only knows when I will get it

We've already gone over this

The 07 MINI's have larger cup holders.

The one behind the hand brake is larger than the two up front.

Yes the one behind the handbrake can fit any large drink it appears.. The front ones can fit any large drink that has a smaller bottom... IE: Taco Bell large drinks that come in those plastic type cups or Jack in the Box same thing.

Eh probably not.. but most likely wont in lots of cars.

The new MINI though is a major improvement in size from the previous generation

The one behind the handbrake is bigger, but the brackets on the armrest, if you have it, prevent you from using anything larger than bottled water.

The one up front still won't allow you to use anything large, as you'll bump into the control panel, and if you have heated seats, you'll probably turn those on at the same time.

And -- it's TIGHT. I had a flimsy styrofoam cup in there (Chick-Fil-A), and the pressure from the leather pads caused it to spring micro-leaks. Even a 12oz can fits tight. (Yes, I know the "stick the ashtray in it for a while to loosen up the retainers" trick, just haven't done it yet.)

If I have just one gripe with the R56's interior, it's that they MESSED UP the cupholders. The R53's two front ones were perfect for the "coin holder bin" aka ash tray, and my cell phone. The rear cup holder [the only real one] perfectly held ANY drive-thru beverage I could find. The R56's rear cup holder is now wide and shallow; it can't hold a 20 oz soda to save it's existence

I plan on machining an R56 insert that plugs into the rear cupholder and exactly matches the perfect contour of the R53 rear cupholder. BAD MINI for messing up the rear cupholder!

Whatever you do, don't put a 20 oz bottle in the front cupholders. I just barely got mine out!

What I want to know is if the cup holders can be removed without leaving a "scar?" I hate cup holders in cars almost as much as I hate using cell phones in cars.
