Good Deal on '05?

I went to a dealership last night to check out an '05 Cooper S CR/W with Premium, Sport, and Weather Packages and 23K miles. After some negotiating, we arrived at $21.8K (that's without taxes, tags, etc. which amounts to about $1300). I walked away, if for no other reason that I was not ready to make a purchasing decision regardless of price.

While I think this MINI is great, it just disturbs me that I can build the same '06 for about $3K more. I realize that technically, I can't build a custom MINI anymore, but I'm sure that that build is somewhat common, and I could find one.

Basically, I'm looking for advice. Thanks.

I bought mine two weeks ago. It had the same packages except the cold weather. It was sitting on the lot and I bought it for $24,700. New ones are still out there.

I would use the fact that it is a discontinued model to bring the price down even further. Get it for 21k out the door. I made the mistake of paying a premium price for my 2yr old Z3 with 26k miles in 03 when they were no longer being made. 3 years later the resale value (though predicted and promoted to be high) was extremely low. Not that I buy a car based on what resale value is but the fact is the car isn't "worth" as much as the market will dwindle.

Mine was brand new with all those packages and chrome for 21,350. What is driving up the price?

Is yours an "S"? Mine is and I believe that is what tenaciousB was looking at.
