Water Question

Real quick, odd question. I have a 2006 MCS, which up until now has had no problems except for a windshield replacement.

It has been raining very heavily over the past few days here in Portland, OR, but everything had been fine with my Mini. Today, however, as I was driving home, I adjusted the rear-view mirror only to have water flow from the mirror. Water was coming from the plastic seal at the bottom, from the big **** on the bottom and from the "L" bend on the plastic piece that connects to the mirror itself.(Does that make any sense?) There is NO visible water on the inside of the windshield or on the inside of the sunroof. I did a search for anyone who seems to have had this issue previously, but I can't seem to find anyone.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul

Really, really weird. We have been getting a ton of rain here, but this is the first time anything like this has happened.

I assume the headliner was completely dry???

I suppose it is possible if there is a slow leak coming from the windshield area, or maybe a heavy build-up of condensation. The 'L' of the mirror is probably the place some water would end up, as it is the lowest point connected up to the roof area (short of dripping down the inside of the windshield itself.)

Man, if it were me I would take it in to the dealer ASAP (as it's under warranty) and have them pull back the headliner and verify there isn't a leak. If there is, you could start getting some mold/mildew up there...

Please post results so we will have some history on NAM in case this happens to anyone else...

Good luck!

Well, make believe you're "water" and see which way you flow... no, seriously. When you're driving, water gets forced by air pressure against the top of the windshield - could it be from there? Hit that area with pressure from a hose. Do you have a sunroof and does it close all the way? Hit that area with a hose. That's pretty much what the dealer will do anyway... Could easily be a non-sealed windshield since that's the most obvious recent "repair" - was that a warranty repair or due to damage? If damage, was there other damage? A few more details will help in your answer... good luck with it!

Well, I immediately called the windshield place and they are coming out tomorrow to take a look. (I'll keep everyone posted.)

The seal on the windshield "appears" to be good, but the light in my garage is not the best, so take it with a grain of salt. (There was no other damage.) The weird thing is that I can not find ANY water on the headliner, which is surprising to me. (It seems as if the water is coming directly from outside and down through the rear-view mirror.) I checked the sunroof and everything looks good there-no huge puddles of water in the track or anything like that. In fact there is no water coming in from anywhere around that entire area. The ONLY thing that is wet is the rear-view mirror.
