I did an update on the Kona quake on the Hawaii MINI Motoring forum.
We did OK despite loosing power all day for at least a third of Oahu. Many families still without any power after 13+ hours.
Still we have a Flash Flood watch going tonight untill Monday that could worsen.
Kona is hardest hit but not too bad. Oahu OK except for no power.
I'm in central Oahu and power was lost completely from about 7am to 3pm.
My son told me he practiced piano for three hours- otherwise he hasn't played for weeks and he quite taking lessons a long long time ago.
Right now KGMB TV is broadcasting during the last hour for the first time since this morning. Except they are broadcasting from their parking lot and without their normal equiptment in the studio which still has no power.
Today's quake reminded me of those I lived through in Southern California. This one was fairly long and constant.

Did anyone notice the lack of response from Hawaii to your posts about the Quake?
That's cause we didn't have any power to turn on our computers and the internet was down for many.
Hopefully we will be in better shape by tomorrow.

well...the east honolulu owners didn't get power until after we went to sleep...i'm guessing about 12 midnight. kinda spooky to see all of niu valley pitch black. did some work on my mini during the day since couldn't watch nfl and the surf was crappy. took a drive around dusk and noticed how most folks' lawns were lit up by the solar lights, but the homes were all dark.
today on my way out the door to work, i noticed one side of our garage door bracket was hanging by a single bolt after the other fell out. after coming back home, my dad and i just solidified it with a few lighter screws and 2x4's.
the damage on tv is more extensive than originally thought...just like the s.f. quake in '88 or '89 that cancelled the world series in the bay area for one day. us hawaii guys thought it was cool, until we saw all the damage and injuries on tv up in oakland area. at least for us, no deaths occurred. but it seems that kona will be recovering for some time with highways, buildings, and docks all sufferring structural damage. btw, my sister called to say that their pole style house in kealakekua appears to be ok. luckily they don't live in kona town but further south, a bit further away from the epicenter of that quake.

kbseto,
Glad to hear that your sister and family are OK.
Kona was hardest hit.
All medical centers had a hard time with all power out.
Had to scramble fast to save all Flu vaccine stored at each location.
I think we reacted in time and are OK. The vaccines are not replaceable and needed for the Flu season.
Also research done on other vaccines needed to be kept at the right temps needed to be rescued and moved from refrigerators that had no power to ones that were supported by emergency generators.
