I recently took my MINI on Avenue of the Giants in Northern California. All I can say is that it was the most amazing thing I have ever done. The size of the redwood trees cannot be described - this is a relatively average size tree with my MINI in the photo to give perspective.
Unless you’ve been there, people do not realize how huge the trees truly are and how small they actually make you feel in comparison to the world around you. Thanks for reminding me that I need to drive the Avenue of the Giants again.
My SO had not yet seen redwoods or sequoia's when we visited Yosemite many years ago. As we got closer to the sequoia grove each corner we took revealed larger trees than the previous corner. Each time she would ask if they were the sequoia's and I would say no, probably Douglas firs. Then finally there actually was a sequoia. Watching the look of awe on her face was the highlight of the whole trip.
That's so awesome! I'll have to ask my brother out in San Fran if he's ever gone. Might be a neat addition to our road trip through California... whenever that may be... he took me to one of the parks last time I visited, but I don't think the redwoods were even close to that big...
|I have also visited the avenue of the giants. The trees up there are the Coast Redwoods which can grow about 300 feet, however the trees that are not as tall but larger around are found in the Sequoia National Park in Central California. Q
It's been about 14 years since I've seen them. They are amazing. Did you dance on the dance floor? Just looking at it makes you sad that someone actually cut it down. Maybe one of these days I'll take CHECKS out there for a road trip. I miss all my family and friends that still live out there.
