Newbie: Ticking Sound?

I just picked up my new '06 MCS this weekend and it rocks! I started to hear a constant tick-tick sound from the engine. Is that normal for the Cooper S?

Is it constant... or only for a short period after you start the car?

There is a ticking sound that has something to do with the fuel pressure/fuel pump... but on my car it sounds like it is coming from the back of the car. Happens when I first start the car.. but stops after a short time.

Not sure if this is what you are hearing. But I don't remember hearing any other tick-tock type of sound from my 2004 MCS.

.. try some "Premium" gas... I'd hate to think it's detonation. If you've got some good juice in it and it's still pinging, take it back to the dealer and have them take it for a spin.

I also noticed there is a constant ticking coming from the engine. The frequency of the ticking is not very high, I am using premium, so should not be the fuel issue.

I took it to the dealer and the mechanic said it's normal for the Cooper S. I'm still on my first tank of gas from the dealer! I had to leave the car at the dealer though because my Service Engine Soon light was on. I'm hoping I don't have a trouble-prone MCS that I've read about...

It could be the flywheel. This is a known issue and might cause the tech to say it was "normal". Turn on your engine in a quiet area and let it idle. Does it go away when you push the clutch in? If it does, check out this thread.

If that's not it,

MoD were stumped but that was it, they replaced the fuse box and all of the relays and it went away. That's what my money is on.

Sound like the ticking noise is common and will not harm the car.
I only have 1000 miles on mine, so I really dont want to take it back
to dealer to check it out so soon.
Does this happen on a lot of owners or just a few?
