Anyone ever tweak their MINI order ?

Curious if anyone here ever changed their mind about an option hours after placing their order and tried to get the option added or subtracted, and how their dealer handled the request ? It seems like something like this could happen more than occasionally. What timeframe does one usually have after ordering to make any changes ?

Make the changes ASAP, but usually your motoring advisor can help and you won't be the first one to do this!

I called to try to change my order from regular headlights to Xenon; I was told that since the car was already in production, I couldn't change. That leads me to believe that you can change your order up until the point your car goes into production (though this may very well be wrong).

I made tons of deletes after my order. You have until your build date to make changes, but I suggest you make your final changes at least a week before then.

I have had mine on order for about two weeks now, have made a bunch of changes, and next Monday I will add LSD. My build date is in three weeks.

Trust me, changes to your MINI are not an occassional thing. My dealer says almost every single customer he has had made changes throughout the order period. It is a very simple process; I watched him do it. Took literally two minutes.

Not true for me when I ordered. I tried to add things less than a week after the order and couldn't. I was glad, cause it saved me $$. But then I had my MINI in 6 weeks after ordering, not 6 months like some folks.

That's great that you received your MINI so fast. Could this have meant that you tried to add things after your build date?

NOPE, build date wasn't for another month, I just couldn't change the order after they had submitted it, believe me they would have loved to add any more $$ to it if they could have.

I could change everything except the line (MC vs MCS) up till the build date, and I did change some of the options.

wow... you guys read my mind

So.. earlier, I called my MA to discuss the english leather vs the regular leather. I will call him back with a decision. That will be my 2nd change since actually placing the order. I have entirely too much time between order and production date. I just keep thinking, "don't think about"!

I actually added two things after my car was at the port ready to head to the distribution center. Nothing major just the aero kit and alarm. My dealer talked me into doing the aero kit at the VDC, saved me like $600 on the install.

So if you're thinking about the aero kit it's cheaper to have it done at the VDC instead of the dealer (quoted $3200 installed) or you could do it yourself.

I think most dealers are able to make changes up until the order is scheduled for production at the factory. There was a mistake on my order which I caught two days before the "scheduled for production" status. I was lucky!

After placing my order I changed a couple of things. My MA said that I would have a week or so before everything gets locked in. So my first change made it through, my second one didn't. The second one was a change to the dash panel trim. I had no idea what I was going to get until I picked up the car. Had anthracite, tried to switch to silver but ended up with alloy patina. Kinda of a bummer. Sooo...I'm now looking into JCW leather dash.

So, if you plan on changing things, I would try to get them in earlier or live with the decisions you made.

I placed my order and then later decided i wanted the Nav. system. Called my salesperson and told him. He said it should be no problem. Then called me back about 4 hours later to apologize, that my car had just been taken into production and it was too late. After some pleading and begging, he released my production number and assigned me a new one with the Nav system. Had to wait about 3 extra weeks, but it was worth it.

I just want to say thanks for all these responses and to whoever started this thread. There were a few things about my order I was unsure that after coming here, I wanted to tweak, but didn't know if I could. After reading this, I called my MA and she took care of it right away, with no problems!

When you can make changes also depends on what you want to change. Factory-installed features need to happen before you enter production. I don't know about VDC-installed features; I didn't have any. Dealer-installed features, though, can be changed all the way up to the date when you sign the purchase and sale agreement, maybe even later.

My dealer received a total of 3 MCS's thanks to my indecisiveness The third one I finally accepted, and even then I would have liked to have made some minor changes (would have dropped the sport pack to have the 16" wheels instead of the 17" S-Lites)

So no, you're definitely not alone in that department, by my third order they were fairly annoyed :impatient with me hehe.

I've only changed my spec's about a dozen times. Cudos to Chris at South Bay MINI for putting up with me . Mine goes into production in week 36, so I figure I'm good for at least another five changes

As Steeroidz implied, you can in fact change your specs even after your car has been shipped accross the ocean and delivered to the dealership. Simply refuse the car and get your money back. By law the dealership will return your deposit (at least for sure in California). And then you order another with the specs you want. And you can, technically, do this over and over. But, whether the dealership lets you through their front door after the first or second refusal is another story.

We did...

We placed our order at the end of the '05 production run for an '06. About a month after placing the order I decided to add leather/heated seats. Our rep told us that they couldn't change the order but after perusing our options list, they decided they could sell that car outright and allowed us to start over by ordering up a new car (with a new production #). No charge, it just put us back down the waiting list.

My dealer asked if I wanted any changes...

About two weeks after I placed my order, I got an e-mail from my MA asking if I wanted any changes. Cool!

I'd spent about six months on the configurator, so I didn't have any changes to request, but it was good to know that the option was there.

Wheeee!!!

Scheduled for week 34...

crazypoet, that's what I call customer service. I think it's safe to say you didn't order from Mini Of Towson.
