Shark Injector

I am considering getting a shark injector and was wondering if anyone else has one and what their opinion is of it. My Mini has an Alta CAI and a 15% reduction pulley, and I have plans to get a cat-back here in the next couple months. Let me know what you think of the shark injector and if it a good upgrade.

There have been a couple of threads about the Shark injector...

The concensus seems to be that other options (unichip and mth are two that come to mind) give a better improvement. Do a search if you want all the gory details.

The guy who does the Shark knows what he's doing..

but his offering is (currently) only for 01-04 cars. 05+ is under development. As far as relative value, there is little good data.

To get more information on options, get the next issue of MC Squared. LAst issue I talked about what the ECU does, this issue is a review of most of the tuning options available in the US.

The shark is the best from a design hardware / install concept (ECU reflash in a plug-in can) BUT the general comments of the "flash" itself is pretty low = Minimal Hp & Tq gains.

Shark Injector

Hello All,

Has anyone here installed the Shark Injector for the MINI CooperS? I'd like to find out your thoughts and results. Please chime in, I'm about to get it.

By the way, I have installed the Cold Air Intake and has the Reduction Pulley Installed...wow, what a major difference.

Anyway, I feel this is the next best step before exhaust. Let me know, thanks.

There have been threads about this topic.

As a former owner, I'd say that it's not particularly effective for the money.

The coolest part is being able to unplug it from your OBD-II port when neeeded.

Wish one of the more serious programs out there could be installed in a similar device.

Shark Injector

Tell ya' what I think...

The Shark Injector is half the price of the others and less than half of the hassle. You plug it into your diagnostic port and, in less than 30 minutes you're done.

It takes the shift point up, so you don't red line where you did stock. I believe it may remove the speed governor too...not sure, have to check into that.

I gives a little horsepower and a crisper power band. For $399 bucks, you won't get that anywhere else in terms of a chip.

I say its a good buy...the others out there will yeild more, of course, but they cost more and the are more of a hassle.

If you want, cheap, easy, clean...go with the Shark Injector, if not of that matters, go with something else.

There are no gains from it power or torque wise. Seen it first hand on a dyno. Spend an extra $100 and get MTH.

Skip it. Friend had it and it produced no gains. Sure its cheap and easy to install, but there are much much more effective programs out there.

Cheaper end = MTH
More expensive end = EvoTech

MTH tune this week: gains in hp & Tq plus a smoothness in driveability that wasn't there before. Well worth the money and effort.

While it is referenced that shark is half the price - it's also about half or less the performance gain of the others therefore cost per HP / TQ increase the shark is the most expensive! I do acknowledge that the shark is the best form of delivery/install aspect.

For those that want the least amount of hassle - try GIAC - go to a dealer, they install and drive off - for about the same as the shark BUT with significant increases.

There are lots of options...

and if the shark is $399, its far from half the price of other options! If you want this type of tune, there's also the aMd One-Click, made in europe. You can order it direct, and it's the same type of deal. They also are still doing dev work, and I think it's available for the 05+ cars....

The shark was the best (maybe only?) very early on.... Doesn't seem like it's kept up with the times... But who knows, some of the vendors say the 05+ model is under developement....

Matt

ps, next issue of MC Squared talks about a lot of the tuning options here in the US. I didn't cover the european products much, unless they have US distribution.

I am new to this thread about MOD chips and flashing. Can you tell me what GIAC stands for. I am not familiar with that acronym. Also, is this mod something that any dealership will do? I have the 15% reduction pulley and a CIA already installed. (non-dealership installed)

GIAC is a tuning company...

they sell flashes for the ECU. There are lots of ways to skin the cat, with more joining the party daliy it seems (Fireball Tim is the latest....)

There's an article I wrote in the latests MC Squared (Issue 4) that covers most of the options, and that may be a good place to start.... Issue #3 has a beginners introduction to what the ECU actually is busy doing.....

You are correct, sir.

BTW, the article in issue #4 about different tunes is great. Very nice job!
Like you stated, it seems tuners are coming out of the woodwork now.

Bullydog

Doesn't driving around with The Company make you a bit nervous?
