any pulley parties in hawaii???

just wondering..

I am looking to do:
Alta CAI
Randy Webb's 15 pulley (due to their warranty coverage)
one-ball the oem exhaust...

I didn't buy the stuff yet... so no big rush..

The CAI I can do myself, one-ball at an exhaust shop... can do the pulley, but think it would be faster if someone was there that has done it already...

Call Gerard at Motorwerks 596 7758 to see if he's doing pulley installs. He does MINI work. i've had lots of work done there and he's great. Just installed a Quaife in my trans.
Eric (Helix 13) did some installs & other MINI work at Gerards place last time he was here.

Gerard's is a good place, like Barry said. A few of us have done them ourselves too. ESMHawaii does them (that's Andew = eastsidemini on NAM).

Andrew, does M7 provide a warranty due to the pulley swap? I know the pyulley swap is a touchy issue with Mini about voiding the warranty.. I really don't want to deal with that crapola, should something happen...

The reason I want to go with Webb is their warranty lasts the rest of my current one...

Waiting on an email from them to establish an installer, if they have a guy already out here.. and will talk to Gerard to get his input....

Thanks!

roehrigs01,

Are you thinking that Webb's warranty covers or replaces the dealers warranty on the car? It doesn't. Webb warrants the Webb bought part only - if the dealer says your pulley swap kills the warranty for whatever engine issue, you're still stuck.

If that's the case, then don't do the pulley swap yet. Once you do it, you have to expect to deal with the hassles.

warrenty

Any vendor will back up their products (pulley). But As soon as the service tech from MOH see the pulley, they will be shaking their heads and tells you something you don't want to hear. We don't have a Webb certified installer in Hawaii. I have done 1/2 a dozen of pulleys in my garage and worked on my own Cosworth stage track/performance mule since the car was new. Feel free to call me or visit my web site www.ESMHawaii.com for more info and pricing .

If I read correctly, it referrers to any oem part that broke due to the part too...?

"To obtain service under the warranty, the customer must contact Webb Motorsports who will, without charge to the customer, either repair or replace the defective Webb Motorsports branded or distributed part and/or the original vehicle manufacturer's part at the sole discretion of Webb Motorsports if it is determined that the Webb Motorsports branded or distributed part caused the failure of the original vehicle manufacturer's part. Parts replaced by Webb Motorsports become the property of Webb Motorsports and/or the original vehicle manufacturer. In all cases, customers understand that a reasonable time period must be allowed to initiate and make warranted repairs to the vehicle."

I wouldn't be so **** on this if I was getting close to the warranty expiration, but right now I am at full warranty time - 8 months... For now I might stick with the CAI upgrade...

I think the key part is
at the sole discretion of Webb Motorsports if it is determined that the Webb Motorsports branded or distributed part caused the failure of the original vehicle manufacturer's part.
These parts DO NOT cause the failure of the OEM part; therefore, only the aftermarket part would be covered. It's the DEALER that says the aftermarket part WILL cause the failure of the OEM part; however, they are not part of the deciding factor - it's Webb Motorsports who already says it will NOT cause a failure to the OEM part. Plus this is when they (Webb) or their approved installer does the installation right?

I dunno, maybe it's me but it seems like a useless warranty, especially for us here in Hawaii.

hmmm... so it is sounding like the only way to avoid the hassle, if something should happen is to go jcw retro or dinan....

that's right

That's why they can charge whatever they want. But for people who acturally can and like to work on their car, It is just over price For example the JCW air box is around $400 range not installed. I can go on and on but rather not........

Yep, the only way to be "approved" is to have the dealer install the JCW or DINAN. If you are truly concerned, this is your best bet.

There are lots of aftermarket pulleys 15, 16, 17, 19 in use here w/o issue for yrs & 10-30k miles. Many have pulley for 3 yrs no issues & are happy. Few of us tracked (so sad to say that in past tense) our cars also w/o issue (except keeping an eye on the belt and changing more often). Get it installed you'll be glad you did.

The new shop foreman Danny at BMW Honolulu is great- he's easy to work with. Before he came on they would make ridiculous statements about an aftermarket part causing a problem that obviously could not be related to the part. Since he's arrived its been a night & day difference. I really found him just great to work with-

However aftermarket pulley or other parts is still taking a chance with the warranty. As Dirk said if you must have warranty let dealer install JCW or Dinan pulley.

I had the 19% put on after only a week of owning the car. The difference is night and day. I love it, all knowing my warrenty is shot. its the chance i was willing to take. i knew if i didnt do it now it wouldnt happen for a really long time(wedding) so i did it for myself.

BTW.......I sold the ninja for the engagement ring. that is true dedication there.

oh yah...looking at moving by spring...or late summer...

My big toe is about 80% back to normal now.. just waiting for the nail to grow back to full length.. it is amazing how good it came back together after being mangled by the lawnmower...that's nothing though... 2 weeks ago, I had to get Basal skin cancer removed from the top of my head.. about 2" dia spot.. had 25 staples in my head.. all out now though and the Dr closed it nicely so just have a scar and no bald areas... holy moly! ...
