A Trip To Jolly Ole England Anyone???

I have been talking to folks for a couple months now about interest in getting up a trip to tour the MINI Plant in Oxford NEXT year. Most everyone I've talked to has expressed an interest in going. Therefore, I'm starting this thread for folks to respond to in this regard to see how much interest there might be club-wide. The more people that go, the cheaper it would be. This would likely be some time next summer but I don't have any dates in mind at this point and would likely be at least 7 days. Since this is a major trip that will require a lot of preparation, I want to begin looking at this now. All I'm asking at this point is, if you are interested in this or think you might be, respond to this thread and let me know what you think.

I will talk more about it at the Quarterly Meeting in Hickory on 6/24 so bring your thoughts and ideas with you if you're planning to attend. Then, if there is enough interest, I would like to have more definitive information by the Annual Meeting in September (like dates, cost, how to sign up, etc.)

I am very excited about the possibility of doing this and hope a lot of you guys are as well. I want to limit this to M2C2 members only at this point but we might decide we want to open it up to other clubs as well. The more the merrier! Jolly Good.

Hi Eric,
I think we talked a little at MOTD about this. I would be interested in this trip. I would like to hear more about your ideas for activities/tours for the week. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the Quarterly meeting, so we can talk another time.

Anne and Ches are interested (since both of us plan on being retired next summer). Again, depending on dates/price/etc.
Added 06-09: Have a friend and his wife (Don and Mary) who are interested (will join MMC2). So that will be four.

Don't know if everyone has seen the latest issue of MC2 magazine but there is a great article on touring the English countryside in conjunction with a plant tour in Oxford. This tour is a complete "motoring themed" tour and takes in a number of auto museums in the area. Check it out and let me know if you'd like our proposed trip to be similar. I am also going to contact MINI USA to see if they have a suggested itenerary .

Right after I got my MINI a year ago, I read a blurb in the Sunday paper about tours of the MINI plant in Oxford for MINI owners. I thought it sounded really cool!

Anyway, I'd love to go!

Just wanted to update everyone as to where things are at this point. I am talking with a Travel Agent about what we would like to do and she is working up a tentative travel agenda for us with costs, etc. that I hope to present at the Annual Meeting on 9/23. If you have ideas or thoughts about tours or activities, let me know and I will pass these along to her. (Pub tours will be on your own)

Sorry I haven't posted anything on this recently. I have been in contact with a travel agent and she was not as reponsive as I would have liked but the issue has been transferred to another agent and she seems like she is more interested in getting us some information. I had hoped to have something to share with you guys by the Annual Meeting but that didn't pan out. Part of the problem (I'm being told) is that the plant has been closed for several months and they've had a hard time getting tour information from them. Anyway, I hope to definitely have something by the December/Christmas meeting but if I get some information before then I will post it.

Please be aware that I haven't forgotten about this and something is still in the works!!! More later (I hope). Keep the faith.

Great news! I have FINALLY received a proposal from Mann Travel and as soon as I get a few issues, cleared up, I will be passing it along to everyone else for you to look at. The really good news is the price. It looks like, depending on how many people we have going, we can do this for LESS than $2000 per person!!!!

Remember, this will be limited to M2C2 members ONLY at first, then if we have room, we could consider opening it up to other clubs.

Now, can someone advise me on how to forward the e-mail I got from them to everyone?!?!

I have one question have you emailed to oxford plant? I took the plant tour this past April 06, send them by email the dates you will like to come and they will sent you the time and some other dates if that one you want is not available, after you settle on a day and time they will mail you the do's and don'ts of the plant,(like no cameras, cellphones with cameras and they will rap all you rings with tape) you sign the forum and mail it back to them and they will put you on the books. I booked my plant tour 3 months in advance to make sure I got the dates I needed.

This is a note to let everyone who replied to this post that I will be getting information out soon about this trip. I have been working on this for quite a while and finally have some information to share with you. I hope that most of you who have expressed an interest are still interested in going. Virgin Vacations and Mann Travel have put together a very exciting itiniery for us at a very reasonable price. I'm very excited about this. Please be looking for information sooooooon!!!!!!

Since this will be a major undertaking, I am asking if there are a few other folks out there who are interested in helping pull this together---kinda like a Trip Committee. Let me know if you are interested by either posting here or sending me a PM.

I have asked Shelley and she has agreed to send out a copy of the proposed trip Package and rates out to all club members via e-mail, so hopefully, you will be seeing this soon. I am asking that those of you who have indicated an interest in going to let me know ASAP if you are still interested so we can get an idea of how many we may have and if we will need to open this up to other people.

If you do not receive this information by the end of the week, let me know.

The e-mail was sent out this morning so all members (with e-mail) should now have the information about the trip. It has also been suggested to me that I post this information on this forum so I will be doing that as well. Please let me know if you have any questions and if you are interested in going.
