[Hawaii] SCCA final HRP track day
[Hawaii] SCCA final HRP track day
I just got back from the track (I was hanging out with Tom B.) and it looks like tomorrow's SCCA track day is going to be canceled.
My Formula Hawaii class got canceled today too.
When I was there, Ed H. came out to check the track out (took his Neon for a spin around the track) and things did not look good. The sweeper, changeover, chicane are all under water and the rain is just not letting up in Kapolei. Those who signed-up should keep an eye out for an e-mail or call from Ed K.
[Edit : It's 1:25 pm and oh my God folks, it's clearing up in Kapolei (I can see all the way to Diamond Head!) so maybe things will turn around.]

Thanks for the heads up.
Anyone that lives near to the track please post here if the weather on April 1st saturday in Kapolei is really BAD or really good so that the rest of us know.
The cars will not be allowed to drive in standing water but some drizzles ain't gonna stop our fun!
If there is a dry place for this weekend it WILL BE at HRP.
Also of note, sunday is the last SCCA Hawaii autocross. I'll just bring my rain tires.

, however, although the skies to the east are fairly clear and getting bright, there are sets of dark clouds looming towards the track area. I believe, if the track is not too soaked, that they may start the track event in these conditions. Hopefully, it lasts until the SCCT portion!
Good luck on the weather guys!
A memorable last track day.

Good luck on the weather guys! My MINI drove through a really deep standing water puddle blocking the entrance to HRP. I thought since the gate was open there the puddle was well, a puddle. But once I was in it I could not find the bottom and I was sinking lower and lower until- I was approaching the level of my fog lights and water was almost in my tail pipes. But I did sputter through it and lived to tell the tale of my near drowning. I would have missed the track day if that happened.
The afternoon was a bit cloudy but still clear enough for 13 of us to drive drive and drive.
Seconds before my session I found that my battery was dead. Not sure how it got drained. Quickly, another driver gave me a jump and off I went. What better way to charge up a battery than to hit the track for a session or two.
Over 14 miles per 15 minute session. Woody in his BMW sedan said he clocked a 41.3 second lap. Nice.
I lost a bolt connecting my exhaust header and resonator. The resulting booming exhaust noise reminded me of a Magnaflow exhaust with no cat. So loud I was almost embarassed.
Tonight I picked up a replacement bolt and nut and put things back together.

41.3! He dropped 2.77 seconds off of last Super Lap - awesome! How were you running?
I think I drove through that big puddle yesterday, while it was pouring when I visited Tom B.
