2006 MCS Groans When Turning
Hey MINIacs:
What do you think this issue is: My '06 JCW MCS has just under 1200 miles (2000 km). When I make a hard left or right turn and the car is going slow, or turning into an intersection, there is a ridiculous "groaning" sound coming from the front end.
Has anybody heard this before? I'm running runflat snows, but it sure doesn't sound like rubber meeting the road.
Your thoughts?

Here's a nice thread about LSD stuff:

Hope that helps

Thanks - that sure sounds like the issue: A groaning LSD! Whodathunk?
Mine is a Nov. build, so you might've thought the "quieter" lubricant was installed. As long as it's not broken, I can certainly live with the noise.
However, when I'm next at the dealer, I'll see if there is something that can be done.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated, but the link from eVal sure helps - and explains some other LSD anomalies. Worth reading.

Check your power steering fluid level, sounds like it's low to me.
The end seals leaked on my '05-S (it made the same noises) and MINI had to replace the entire steering rack. I hope it's just the LSD making noise.

Mine's an October build 2006 MCS and my car started groaning within 200 miles. I took it in and the SA wouldn't do anything because he couldn't reproduce it. He said for me to bring it back when it did it all the time.
It's now 4500 miles and it's doing it almost all the time. I'm going to hold out until 10000 miles though just to get it all done at the same time since I don't have a MINI dealership near me.
List of Stuff to get done
1) Oil Change and whatnot
2) Check out Groaning Noise
3) Dampen rattling of dashboard
4) Turn off Daytime running lamps

I know people had similar problems with the M3 (rear) diff.
Their solution was to do several aggressive figure-of-eight manouvers periodically......Don't know whether this would help with the MINI's diff or not?
