Pioneer AVIC-N2 question

First question is I'm pretty sure the nav system gives voice guided directions, can someone confirm that? And if so, can you choose a voice?

Second question is more of an eBay question, but are these sellers who list the item for cheap and then in their ad say you have to email them for the buy it now price to be trusted? The one I am checking out right now is selling the pioneer for a very low price however is based in Romania (supposedly) and will only take Western Union money transfers as payment. However, he is willing to use ebay square trade to do the transaction. If I can get him to use PayPal I will feel better because of their Buyer Protection Plan. So I am conflicted...your thoughts?

Thanks

lay off the sale

first off man....there is voice guidence on the unit but you cannot choose a vioce.....secondly you do not want to buy from any fishy type of people like the one your looking at.....it just doesn't sound cosher at all.....and lastly you know that the n2 does not play dvd's while your driving....there is no way to bypass the ebrake wire.....it's not a wire anymore.....it's all encoded into the software because if you put the n2 software into the n1 unit....it will not let you bypass the ebrake....the best bet is to buy an n1....if your looking to let your passangers watch movies while your driving

Use www.pricegrabber.com to find the lowest price. I bought my AVIC n2 from ibuydigital.com for 1239.00

I don't plan on playing DVD's while driving. The ony other person in the car usually is the girlfriend and she can't read or watch anything or sleep in a car (ya, one of THOSE people ) But anyway, I like the N2 more for the XM NavTraffic option. Once I decide to get the nav, I'll be installing XM at the same time. The fact that it does all-in-one is so nice. And as far as the ebay seller goes, I think I'm gonna let him go his way. However there are still some good prices on there from reputable sellers.

Thanks for the help. My electronic know-how is next to non-existant, how hard is this install for a guy like me?

I'm in the same boat as you Shortstack. I have very limited stereo installation experience. I bought the AVIC from www.ibuydigital.com and the wiring harness, facia, and antenna adaptor from www.crutchfield.com. Crutchfield creates custom instructions on how to install the stereo in the MINI, so it is much easier to follow than the instructions that come with the stereo. I think you should be able to do it on your own. Just take your time and make sure you have the tools the instructions recommends (nothing special, just screw drivers a torx driver, and electrical tape). You'll do fine.

Not true, I have an n-1 in my mini and I liked it so much I put one in my Truck as well. The one in the truck is an N2 and I play video and adjust the nav controls while in motion. There is a tiny mod you need to make to allow video and nav controls while in motion. Cost less than $10 and if you do it before you install it, it only takes 5 min or less and anyone can pull it off. The downside is you void the warantee.

Hi everyone,

I have a headunit question and I saw that many of you have the same headunit I might be getting. I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with it at all? Also, I remember hearing somewhere there is a problem installing the AVIC-N2 on a MINI equipped with the HK system. Do anyone know anything about installing the headunit on a HK equipped MINI? I think the argument was that the headunit and the HK system won't communicate and something else was necessary for proper operation.

Thanks,

Drew

you can bypass the video and nav options by ripping off the sticker on the bottom of the avic and then making a jumper to connect to metal connections on the bottom...we do it at work sometimes...for people who are nice customers and they don't mind voiding the warranty
