Ditto for me

I was running around untuned (not recommended) and was doing it...I was only making 240 WHP and 200 ft lbs (mustang dyno) at the time....on pump gas and wasn't reving out to 7 as she was untuned so I was short shifting at around 5000-5500 rpm

after the tune she made 275 WHP and 240 ft lbs on 25 lbs of boost reving to 7500

Perhaps it could beat those cars if they were stock, but if their owners put the same amount of money into them, I don't see how you could touch them

sigh....they weren't stock...but I am not going to try and convince anyone ....LOL...like Maximus said...when I get the chance I'll get video...

Minicoop78 raced a 311 WHP evo when he was only making 205 whp, (pulley car) they were DEAD EVEN....so 100 WHP difference and 500 lbs is more than most think it is

Power to weight baby! Power to weight!
You must also remember there are different markets for each different car and they vary.. If I remember, my Evo's exhaust cost a grand, and it was only a cat-back.

Don't really want to argue the point b/c it's not worth it, but it costs alot more to mod a MINI than an EVO. The hubby got a good turbo back for his EVO that got him ~30hp and it cost him $600

We made 30 WHP by just tuning a mini the other night...that's not $600...

now a year ago that was true...about HP per $ for minis...but things are changing...well if I have it my way

Uh huh...this will be my last post on this, but look back at what you guys have already posted

If you use those numbers and take the MINI to weigh, say 2500lb and the EVO to weigh say 3000lb, then
MINI: 205whp/2500lbs = 0.082whp/lb
EVO: 311whp/3000lbs = 0.104whp/lb
that means that the EVO has ~20% power to weight advantage over the MINI. If the EVO put a monstrous turbo in his car that doesn't spool until 6500RPM and if the EVO driver isn't very good, I guess so, but when people are convinced, there's no point in arguing with them

Don't get me wrong, I love MINI's and I think they are great cars, but why get one if all you want to do is beat somebody off the line? I'd rather take my competition in the twisties and couldn't care less about how fast the car can go 1/4 mile.

Oh, and I found several name brand EVO titanium CBE's for $600

I totally agree....I love road racing...more than anythign...there is always a straight though

Again I agree...the only reason 1/4 mile has ever come up for me is cause people ask "how much HP are you making" which is followed by "really?! what's she run?" the 1/4 shows more than time...it shows the "real HP" and the ability to get it to the ground....and alot of other things as well...

in the end...I just like having the best of both worlds...handling AND HP...makes it more fun ...FOR ME! Even when I raced bikes...I chose the 748 over the 916 cause in the end...the only time I got passed was on a straight over 130 MPH and ussualy by that speed there was a turn coming...at which point that person was past back by me...LOL

Agreed, owned a 996SPS, 748R, then a 998R, and finally a 999S, the most fun was 748R, on track only.

Doesnt that extra horsepower in an AWD car go into drivetrain loss? I mean can you really put max HP to all wheels? vs a Mini which puts it to 2 wheels with a lot less loss? So they NEED the extra horsepower to make up for that loss just to keep the same runs?

Or am I completely wrong?

How soon do you think you're going to get you motor running? I can't wait to see what you have planned for it.

When you're talking bhp, you might be on the right track with your above assement. However, when you quote whp (which is what was done above), then you cannot factor in drivetrain loss, because you're measuring it at the wheels.

I know who drove both of the cars. I know the driver of the EVO weighed more than the driver of the MCS. So even more weight disadvantage goes to the Evo. As we know, a car is only as fast as it's driver, but both are really good stick men, and don't know who I'd put my money on if I did have to put money down. Maybe this difference in accelleration was due to gearing differences at the speeds they were testing at...maybe the MCS driver oiled the EVO's side of the road...dunno...

teehee, the weakspot on mini's in road racing are the straights. Also, have you really truly driven the EVO? it handles pretty darn effin good imo.. I can keep up with modded MINI's in the twisties.

yeah...I have driven the heck out of a few.....there is NO doubt they are quite nimble for being a "4 door"

and I think AWD is very confidence inspiring for sure..and ofcourse I enjoyed the EVO for I could throw it side ways with a flick of the wheel and a stomp O' the gas....I would be suprised if the evo with the same driver in both cars would turn similar lap times if powe was "equal" to each car and it's wieght though.....I mean the square wheel base alone is just better...just like the classics I grew up watching at the vintage races....they would weave in and out of the bigger V8s in the turns like a fly....but they were down on power for the straights....technology has changed that for us...it levels the playing field to driver really...

I have out run people in cars when I was driving my Tahoe...or the Ram cargo Van...even a dodge mini van...cuase I knew the limits of those things more than the person driving thier honda or whatever knew the limits of thier car...and more importanttly of them selves
