'07 fuel economy?

It seems that just by switching to an aluminum block engine with turbo instead of sc, that the '07 mcs will be significantly more fuel efficient than the first gen.

However, with that "blunt" nose, will it possibly have *worse* aerodynamics (which is already a problem for this otherwise would-be economical car)?

Any thoughts?

The changes to the shape of the car seem fairly minor - it's still going to have the aerodynamics of a shoebox. I think a lighter, more efficient engine would more than cancel them out.

direct injection engines are "suppose" to be more efficient anyways.. especially for city driving.. the fuel econ should definitely be better.. although it still will depend most on how heavy your foot is on the pedal.

BMW was unhappy with the fuel mileage from the current engines, so I expect mileage to be better. Maybe high 30's or low 40's on the highway for the TCed version?

I agree and would expect 40mpg out of the turbo just from the differences of Turbo verse Super chargers.

Why don't you try reading some of the articles about the new engines a little more in depth?

It's not just aluminum and a turbo

direct injection, variable valve timing and an electrically driven water pump are also part of the package and will help mileage increase dramatically.

Well now we know... I average about 35 mpg in mixed driving per tank full. If mostly city driving it's high 20s and mostly highway it's high 30s. Great improvement over the 1st gen...

I have a 2007 MCS and mostly ride on major highways. I average 30-32 mpg. True all MINI's get superior mpg, and that's one of the reasons I purchased mine, I've learned this is a high performance car and that's the least of the advantages of owning one.
