Swapping out the "BMW" iPod adapter for ICE LINK

Has anyone done this?

The dealer that installed the "factory" IPOD adapter they said they removed pins 9,12,15,16....

Does anyone know if I can just unplug the "factory" one and then plug in the new ICE LINK?

If not what do I need to do?

in case your wondering why I'm making the change, three reasons:
1. ID3 tags
2. functionality from the IPOD when desired
3. want a wire long enough to run up into my armrest

any help would be appreciated...
