I have an MTH cable

I PM'ed eechan about a week ago, offering the usage of my cable.

But realized I should probably post here so that others know I have a cable that I'm willing to loan out. It is the USB port Sensolutions cable, and it works like a charm.

If anyone in the area wants to borrow it, feel free to shoot me a PM sometime. Assuming it's not already out on loan, I'm happy to share it.

For those not as familiar with the MTH mod . . .

I highly recommend it. I have a 15% pulley and an ALTA CAI. The MTH software really helped to pull it all together into a nice cohesive package. Car doesn't feel as "tuner" as it did before.

Power delivery is much more linear, and throttle response is better as well. Plus, I have officially gotten rid of my periodical stumbling idle issue that so many of us got with the v39.1 software "upgrade". You know - pull up to the light, sitting in neutral, and the idle starts getting choppy and the car feels/sounds like it's going to die, but doesn't. Installed the MTH over a month ago, haven't had the choppy idle once since.

Not sure about some of the horsepower claims I have seen/heard, but it does seem to pull a little stronger than it did. Anyway, for $75 you really can't beat it.

1500 miles and Phil Wicks' track event at Autobahn and no problems with MTH so far. NTHUSIAST was kewl enough to let me barrow his cable for my install as well. Worked like a champ. For the money it is a great mod.

The basic is about $75 depends on exchange rate. Tuner I think is $300. But alas, you WILL have to read other posts to know for sure....

I've thrown codes with MTH. I write in what code has been thrown, and get a new map. Codes gone.

Also, the map isn't detectable by the Mini diagnostic SW. And you can always re-map to stock. That's one of the nice things.....

yah, but to remap I would have to borrow the cable again and again. Seems like a very big hassle.

although my family is considering getting a OBD II reader to read ECU error codes adn reset them, would I be able to use the same one to remap? if so any ideas on which one would work well for this?

And cheap OBD-II scanners are about $40.... It's possible that you could make the interface for MTH on a curuit board, and use the OBD-II cable that comes from the scanner to work. If you want to go real cheap, just make the cable. You can get the OBD-II connector from lap Logger for about $7. There are schematics for the MTH interface floating around. About $2 in parts......

But it will cost you something. And with the MTH, you keep getting maps with the changes you make to your car. Unless you go with Apexi or something home programmable, you have to go dyno tune the other options.,. Some give maps with upgrades, but as I have MTH, I'm not an expert on the others.

I got a cable and the base map a few years ago. I've done about 5-7 maps in total. For the less than $200 for cable and licence....

There's ante in the ECU game, and it's not just a quarter!

not anymore. as of 8/1 there has been a significant price change

and Matt has a typo above, it's not $, it's Euro. so that 300 Euro is about $365 at today's exchange rates

it's summarized here

NTHUSIAST is out of town for a few weeks and he was kind enough to let me play with his cable while he's gone. I just flashed the tuner map into my stock MCS last night. wow!

you save about $100 by not buying a cable. and is it really a hassle to borrow a cable from a fellow chicagoland MINI driver? I'd repay such generosity with beer or munchies after a drive out to get the new data loaded.

it's not like you'll be applying performance mods to your car every weekend is it? I'm thinking that perhaps 3-4 times in a year, tops.

But I lost the link! It's for an OBD-II interface, I just don't remember which one of the four. I know I'm just being a tease, I promise to find it and post. I'll look to see if it's our interface as well.....

But with about 20min of searching, that's the only one I found. We may get lucky, maybe not.....

as promised....

Here you go!

schematic

Matt

for mods, what I've done, but since there's no list...

1) DSC modification.
2) Red-Line change
3) Faster RPM drop when shifting.
4) Modified control map (this is what makes the power).

I've had maps for a
Stock S.
With HAI.
With HAI & One-Ball
Whith HAI & One-Ball and Pully and plugs.
Slight pinging, got a new map (CA gas sucks)
Have file waiting for M7 SC and larger TB.

Look on the MTH thread, the inevitable change in pricing has come to be... Still cheap, but less so!

I have this cable which is needed to go from the OBDII to a USB and also to a OBI . I use the same cable on my MIPP for the DINAN software D/L at work. What type of program is this and do i have to pay for every different configuration or do you give them all to me for the same price? Ill even be willing to flash peoples set ups around NY if im up to it.

um, hey guys, this just started as a "can I borrow a local cable" request thread.

now that people are delving back into the technicals of the mod please direct all followup posts to the existing thread here that answers the questions in the previous post.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers and strain the relationship any further between the cool administrators of this site and the (currently non-sponsoring) vendor.

Thx.

I would just buy a new cable for yourself. $100 or so right?

$100 for a cord plus only $75 for the flash...you're still getting a huge
deal vs other flashes.

nope. that $100 for the cable will pay for two flash upgrades instead should the need arise. prices have all changed. go read the MTH thread.
