I don't believe the pulley makes a difference in sound. What makes the addicting sound is the intake. Addictive = Alta, M7 VGS, HAI, and some other of the "more open" design. Some of the less addictive (quiter) would be the JCW, and perhaps the Dinan. Hope that helps.

In a nutshell, the pulley itself won't make noise (although a gatorback belt will whine on one). The pulley will cause a higher-pitched blower whine, which is accentuated by an intake such as you have. Putting the stock intake back on (like mds said) will greatly reduce the whine-effect.

The quietest pulley would be the stock pulley with the stock airbox, but that is too boreing. Enjoy the music while you can

In my experience, it's not the pulley per se, but the belt you use. With a 19%, I've found the only acceptable belt to run is the Goodyear Gatorback. Ironically, despite Goodyear's claims if it being "the quiet belt" it's toothed-style design, while facilitating tigher radii, also creates a distinct "whining" noise so common with actual toothed belts used on big roots blowers (6-71 and bigger)

Generally the pulley itself will not increase the noise. As some have said, using a Gatorback segmented belt might cause a slight increase in belt/pulley noise, but the bulk of the increased noise comes from the overall increase in boost as well as the raised pitch of the sound from the blower. You now have the blower working harder, creating more boost throughout the engine rpm which increases the intensity of the blower whine, plus it is now at a higher average frequency which makes it that much more noticeable.
I knew this going in, so when I added my pulley I also installed the JCW intake which keeps the noise level attenuated during normal driving but opens up to let the scream happen during 'spirited driving'.

I love blower whine and muffler roar as much as the next guy but....why have a nice stereo system.?If the fun sounds are competing with the stereo system and you love music (and if you have a hearing deficit and wear hearing aides and can't hear the music well anyhow as is my problem) then you shouldn't have to choose between performance and music....and who wants a slower MINI than is affordable?
wtf.... isnt it the Supercharger that makes the noise? It makes the noise as a result of the added air going through it. So adding both an air intake and smaller pulley will increase the sound. Remove the air-intake and you still have the sound, because of the pulley. Remove both (back to stock) and you lose the whine.

The SC whine is there no matter if you have a reduction pulley or not. You will hear the whine sooner in the rev band with a reduction pulley, or in other words, you will hear it more often than with a stock pulley. The whine is amplified with a CAI to one degree or another depending on the brand. Solution, roll your windows up, turn the AC on full and crank up the stereo or just listen to that wonderful sound.
