upgrading UGDO to homelink 4 for new openers

It's hard to tell if this has been described before in the same way. I will link to previous posts that tell parts of the story.

In a nutshell: you can use a newer BMW/MINI rearview mirror in a 1st gen MINI that came with the convenience package if your newer garage door doesn't work with your old UGDO remote.

I found a mirror as described in this excellent post: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ew-mirror.html
I spent $35 dollars on ebay and followed the disassembly steps outlined there but I didn't need to do a wire swap or find a pickle fork

I found that the donor mirror and the original mirror have different sized ball joints. As noted in my replies to that thread, I used silicone repair wrap tape to make my original bracket's ball fit in the new mirror's socket.

This thread confirmed some expectations about the keyless entry 315mhz board https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...n-my-06-a.html
I disassembled my original UGDO mirror and pulled out that board as well as the 3 wires running to the standard connector. There is a great picture showing the keyless entry pcb at the bottom of the housing here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MINI/commen...at_is_this_my/

The new mirror had 4 wire connections: white, blue, red and brown
The 315mhz board had purple, orange and brown wires.
I spliced brown to brown and the final pinout was (when viewed from the open end of the connector)

Details for taking the connector apart and putting it together are described and illustrated in the first linked post.

based on what I've read, the auto-dimming only needs power from the car. I haven't had the chance to do a full dimming test, but will soon.
