The internal mirror become loose on our 2013 MINI Cooper S. I have temporarily resolved the issue by placing foam pieces into the socket which houses the ball that is inserted into the mirror. This seems to be working well, but I am looking into getting a replacement mirror as I suspect the foam is not going to be a reliable long-term fix.

I did notice that there is a wire which goes into the mirror. I was surprised to see the wire going into the mirror. Our MINII does not have home link or automatic dimming. I did not take the back piece off the mirror so I did not see how the wire attaches to the mirror. Can anyone inform me as to what the wire is used for?

That wire is for the “VEHICLE REMOTE KEY ANTENNA” ie: to lock and unlock doors and hatchback
