I'm gradually selling off all my cars and making the R53 my daily, I love this car, it's my 2nd and a keeper. That said my other daily for many years is a G1 Insight so I'm a bit obsessed with mpg. I've noticed a bump since my Adrian tune, before I was getting in the high 20s around town, now I'm getting in the low 30s. This is all city driving, some A/C use, some hooning.
Over 353.4 miles I averaged 32.2mpg. Cooper says I have 34 left at this point and tank is close to E on the gauge. 93 octane Shell gas. FWIW other relevant mods are exhaust, CAI, pulley, injectors, the usual OEM+ stuff.
Interestingly one of my previous and simliar cars, a Fiesta ST, got about the exact same mpg after a tune, 1.6l engine also.
Wondered if others saw a bump in efficiency with the tune?
I have similar mods on my pre-facelift '04 R53 (@ 116k mi); 15%pulley, 380cc JCW injectors, colder plugs, NGK blue wires, custom CAI. Before moving to the SW, I was running Chevron 93, averaging 19 -22mpg city/hwy and 33mpg + "out in the wild" interstate driving @75 - 85mph.
Out here in the SW the highest octane available is 91.
Higher altitude / thinner air; I still average about 19mpg city. I do a lot of recreational interstate driving and often see my gas consumption at 130 mi on just the first 1/4 of a tank. = about 340+mi per tank (@ 75mph non stop hwy speeds).
Relying on the mpg your car is telling you increases your gas mileage by around 10%. If you do a manual calculation (miles driven/gas used) you'll find the actual gas mileage will be somewhat less. I average around 22mpg around town on my 2006S.

Very true, but my goal is comparing apples to apples. Looking at what the car says is quicker than doing the math. Before the car said 28ish, now it says 32ish, apples to apples. I could care less about real/actual mpg. I'm more interested in the delta.
I have to admit that I find it interesting that anyone with a modded and tuned R53 is actually concerned about mileage. I have the same mods (also tuned by Adrian) but my fun-factor driving doesn't encourage me to worry about mileage.

True - and I agree.
But often times I'll find myself pleasure cruising for hundreds of miles across the wasteland and not see a gas station (or an exit) for miles on end....
has me a bit concerned after a while .

Like I said, one of my other cars is built for mpg so it's on my mind. The reason I'm bringing it up here is that I noticed a positive mpg difference with Adrian's tune. I've tuned many of my cars and often they become not only more powerful but also more efficient. Since I noticed it with the R53 I thought I'd mention it as one more benefit of having the car tuned. I am beyond pleased with my tune, if I can send more customers his way it will bring me great joy.
