Additional gauges for temperature readout

Hey there,

I'm back with a new question yet again. This time regarding a mod (or rather two mods) I'd like to do to my Mini R55 Cooper S with the N14B16AB Engine.

Recently my car left me stranded with a bad and leaking water pump, therefore started overheating. Afterwards I started to wonder how in the world I can monitor my coolant temperature without all of the hassle with the "hidden menu". I found some ways online, but none of them really completely satisfied me.

I then saw this additinal gauge on the R59 Roadster. Don't know what it is for, but it gave me an idea:




I'd like to do as follows: I would love to add two gauges on either side of my original one, looking just like this one of the R59, with readouts for oil pressure and coolant temperature. So basically an OEM+ kind of job for the readouts. Does anyone of you know of something like that already existing? Or how I could possibly do it? Maybe also somewhere I could find one of these gauges?

If one of you has an R59, I'd also like some more closeup pics of the gauge from different sides as well as how it's mounted. That would be amazing.


I'm just gonna insert a second question here as well: The Mini thermostat opens at about 100°C as far as I know. I read online that there is some way to code the car to run at a lower temperature target than 100-110°. About 90 to 95° would be something I would go for. Have any of you ever done that and if yes, how did you do it exactly?

Kind of a late reply. I don't normally go into the electrical forum.

Yes, I added a coolant temp/oil pressure gauge to my R58. I would have to dig back but I bought gauge pods from one of the vendors here on NAM.


I went with GlowShift gauges (10 colors selectable) to as close as possible, match the OEM Tach color.

Looks good dogface, unfortunately for me, with a Cabrio, I've got the open-o-meter on one side & have the Garmin nav pod on the right.

That's a good looking option too, do you know if the Garmin nav-pod can be removed, to be able to use something like this in its place?

Scanguage 2 or 3 will work too. I ran the 2 in my r55s with n14 and moved it to my r53.

I do much prefer the Mickey Mouse ears of the dual gauges to the single tach only setup.

I LOVED my ScanGauge II I had in my Chevy dually. One of the best features is you can "fine tune" your AVG mileage each fill-up to where it is very accurate on what you are getting per mile. That and all the different gauges or information that you can display.

I am not sure if I was supposed to or not but my dually would get an occasional low fuel rail pressure that would put it in safe mode. I would clear the code while driving and keep on going.
