I purchased genuine mini VANOS intake solenoid and want to test it.
I want to connect 12v to it and test the valve. Where is the positive and negative pins? Does the dot (see image below) tells the polarity? If yes, what is it?
I measured the resistance between the pins and it says 8.2 ohm. My understanding is that it's in the low range since I read it should be between 8-11 ohm. Should I consider that ok or request a replacement?
Keep in mind that resistance of the coil in the solenoid valve is only one factor; there's also the mechanical or the internal moving component; those can stick over time, and there's also the possibility of internal contamination that can cause the valve to malfunction.
As long as the coil resistance is in the spec range I'm sure it's fine. As Mkov noted these tend to fail by either sticking or clogging at the actuator end; a resistance test won't catch that.
There have been something like three design revisions on this solenoid since original; I'd assume (and hope) the newer versions are more robust.
