The MC and MCS do not currently have variable valve timing, but the new Citroen/Peugeot engine will.

"VANOS" is BMW's term for intake-cam only advance/retard, and "Double-VANOS" works on both intake and exhaust cams, with variable lift and duration.

The new engine will actually have "Valvetronic", which is such a continuously variable intake valve lift system that varying the valve lift will actually replace the throttle plate in the throttle-by-wire system!
