R60 Multiple codes; where to start
Multiple codes; where to start
Just purchased an ‘11 r60 S from owner that said it has a possible blown head gasket. There are multiple codes and are as follows: p1447; p2270; p2402; p013a; p013e; p0136; p0128; p0117. In general they are oxygen sensor, coolant temp and thermostat, O2 sensor, and DMTL related codes. Previous owner says car began smoking; thinking steaming, near the intake manifold area and the overflow tank emptied itself into the system. Oil is clean; no chocolate shake anywhere. Car runs at full power when codes are clear however re-flashes quickly. Any ideas from the folks here on where to start with diagnosing this car? Thanks in advance.
P2270, P013A, P013E, P0136 are faults for downstream O2 sensor... I would replace that sensor.
P0128 and P0117 are related to coolant temp sensor and thermostat, which could mean a failed sensor and/or thermostat. I would plan on replacing those two items. You should include the coolant cross over pipe in your parts list, too. (I assume you will be doing the work yourself) If the car was "steaming" near the intake manifold, its possible the cross over pipe either cracked or failed somehow.

Thanks for the response. Borescoped the cylinders after a short drive and found #4 would steam over the lens. Also the added coolant continued to disappear from the overflow. Planning a head removal and inspection. The Bentley service manual has much of the needed information for the 2011 n18 engine.
Dang, does sound like the head gasket. Hopefully nothing is really damaged. Take note that many of the bolts are single use, torque to yield bolts. Make sure you have new ones on hand for reassembly.
