Front CV Axel

I have a mechanic that has given me a site to select the correct parts for my Mini, realoem.com . I have a 2015 F56 Mini Cooper S which needs the front cv axel changed.

There are so many numbers, can someone direct me on which part numbers I should be looking for. And where on my Mini I can find whether mine is a sport automatic or just an automatic.

Thank You! Peaches 🍑

I can't help but think if you have a mechanic that expects you to chose the right parts to repair the car you may want to rethink your choice of mechanic.

@Peaches702 you can always contact a MINI dealership and ask to be transferred to their parts department.

They will find the correct part based on your MINIs VIN

I would recommend contacting Seattle MINI, their parts department is great and they have great prices in their online parts catalog.

https://parts.seattlemini.com

I hope this points you in the right direction -Rich

I’m sorry I didn’t communicate this correctly. My mechanic knows I like to do the majority of my mechanical work. So he was generous enough to give me the website so I could find the correct parts for my car. I only go to him for things I am not able to fix myself.

That being said, I had changed 2 of my motor mounts, shocks/struts & brakes. My car is still making the grindy noise, we lifted it, looked at the cv axle & sure enough one side leaked all over the place while the other side is just starting to leak. They absolutely have to be changed.

Sooo the question is…. There are 4 #1’s … how do I determine which one should be ordered??

Thank You 🍑 🍑

The first and third "#1s" show "ENDED" in the Notes column. If you look at the bottom of the screen shot, that means the part number has been discontinued. Safe guess is they were replaced by the second and fourth "#1s", respectively. But if you click on one of the first or third "#1s" that should take you to a page with some info on supersessions.

Regarding sport automatic vs "just automatic," it would appear that the part is the same for both. Since the first and third are out of play, that leaves you with the second and fourth (the fourth, for both left and right, is indicated by your screen shots as being applicable to sport auto/"just auto", while the second doesn't indicate that).

So I'd say you're looking at the fourth "#1" for both left and right. The third ones would be possibilities if they had not "ENDED". But if your vehicle's production date (not model year -- production month/year) is in or before the 09/2015 date shown in the "Up To" column, you can click the third ones to see how the whole part number supersession thing works.

Realoem is a good site. Takes a little bit of getting used to figuring out what you're trying to figure out -- but once you get a visual bead on how it translates, and then from there the whole part number supersession thing, you'll find it really helpful.

Another good idea: when you have a part number and you want to see photos of the part, just put the part number in Google. You'll see every flavor of mug shot on the planet of the part, and even if there are wrong/errant ones, you'll be able to pick out which ones are likely accurate.

Thank you so much!! This is the first one I’ve been confused, so many options.

RealOEM has saved me from returning parts which say they work for my vehicle & don’t.

Please note Realoem site stopped getting updates in about 2019. There are many parts that are revised since then with new part numbers.

Totally on point. Good catch.

@Peaches702 , you can deal with this by taking the part numbers you get from Realoem and putting them into an actual parts vendor site that will flag you about a part being discontinued and/or show you the replacement part number.

One example: minipartsdirect.com. For my Cooper S, the original spec upper engine mount part number is 22116875630, which has been discontinued. If you go to minipartsdirect.com and search for that part number (I recommend you do this so you can get a read on the visual), it will take you to a page for part number 22-11-8-835-566, and below the big text reading "Engine Mount 221011 - Mini (22-11-8-835-566)" is a second line in smaller text reading "Replaces 22-11-6-875-630".

Other parts websites may do something similar, but where and how it is handled onscreen will obviously vary. Some parts websites may not tell you at all. The main thing is to be mindful about this, and (in my opinion) to check more than one parts site for this sort of cross-ref, to ensure that you aren't buying old stock of an old version of a since-updated part.
