Morimoto Universal H7 HID Upgrade Kit for Halogen R50.

I recently purchased this kit to try and improve the lighting on my '06 R50 daily driver. Working third shift and having a 56-mile commute, I need good lights to drive the critter laden roads of NW Ohio. This is a complete Morimoto HID kit with 6000k bulbs for low beam. Should improve the lighting somewhat.

Installation instructions state that if " a pass thru is needed, a 20mm/3/4 inch hole must be drilled for the grommet to fit snugly in the cap". I'm not sure how a 30mm wide deutsch connecter fits thru a 20mm hole, let alone the bloody great bulb on the other end of the harness!!!!!! In fact, the only things that will pass thru the 20mm hole are the two small individual connectors. Without cutting the wires and reconnecting, the only option that I can see is to drill a hole big enough for the deutsch connector to fit thru and use some kind of sealant.

^^^^ Good idea.

I just think that Morimoto should have thought this thru a little better on an item that they sell as "plug and play".

The bulb is permanently wired and doesn’t have a connector, or is it bigger than the round part sticking out from the clear protector?

The only fittings that would need to go thru the hole are the two single connections and the deutsch connector, which could be de-pinned to push the wires thru the hole and then re-pinned as deepgrey suggested. The base of the bulb is a normal H7 fitment @ 35mm approx diameter.
I'm just surprised that the comparative size of hole diameter versus the width of the fittings wasn't considered by Morimoto, on what is supposed to be "plug and play".

It does seem strange that they didn't mention that issue anywhere. IIRC, in the Mini OEM driving light kit, some of the connectors are already de-pinned for the same reason.

If the connector had come already de-pinned, and it was mentioned in the instructions the reason why that would have been fine.

It must have been obvious, when laying the harness flat, that either end wouldn't go thru a 20mm hole.

De-pinning and re-pinning the connector is easy enough. it's just a step that I hadn't expected to have to do.

Those look like Metri-Pack connectors... Easy to de-pin UNLESS they are a 'Pull To Seat" type.

When I can find my small, jeweler's screwdrivers I'll try to de-pin a connector.

Found my screwdrivers. Funnily enough, right where I last used them!

Successfully depinned and repinned the connector.
