Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
Recently I have bought Mini Cooper S R56 2007 with N14 engine. It was running OK maybe for two days since I bought it but thereafter I started to have some issues:
- Hard to start. It cranks several times before starting or stalls upon last try. From my observation I noticed that when engine is warm it starts or cranks less before starting;
- Smell from the exhaust. For me it smells like rich mixture but I can't tell it for sure. It might be burning oil. Occasionally it throws white smoke from the exhaust when driving but it is not constant;
- Random hesitation from low rpms and when I floor it;
- Sometimes it throws 2880 High-pressure system fault and shows half engine icon in the dash. When I restart the car it goes away.
What has been done to the car already:
- Spark plugs;
- Oil, Fuel filters;
- PCV pipe;
- Oil;
- In tank fuel pump;
- Compression test (warm) 1- 150psi 2- 155psi 3- 150psi 4- 140psi.
Color of spark plugs:
My thoughts:
- I suspect HPFP but I want to be sure before sending it for a rebuild. I am using Delphi DS150E diagnostic scanner to find clues, but at idle fuel pressure is around 5MPa (I don't know if it should be 5MPa or above or if it is acceptable if it drops below 5MPa a little). What values I am looking for at idle and when I floor it;
- I should do leak down test to check the seal within cylinders. Not sure bad seal would have any effect on problems I mentioned as compression results are OK?
