hard start , problem when warm!
hi guys ive seen a lot of post already about this but no answer or advice about the solution.
my mcs 03 when im going to start at the morning or when cold start great but after i drove it a little bit or get warm and i turn it off it takes like 7 or 8 seconds to make it !
I already change , spark plugs , air filter , crank sensor, car runs fine and doesnt have any code! try it to change the fuel filter but this one its like a metal cannister that i cant change it ! i didnt see the way to do it
i live in the caribbean so the temperature its always the same !

First thing I would check is the residual fuel pressure. Remove the intercooler, connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and re-install the intercooler).
With the engine idling it should be 3.3 to 3.7 bar. Switch the engine off and monitor the fuel pressure. It should not drop more than 0.5 bar over 20 minutes.

hi guys a quick update , put out the injectors there was one with problem already replaced but the problem still going ! i fill up the tank and its takes 14.8 gallons and there was a big gas smell in the cabin . it is normal ?
My 2005 R53 had the exact same starting issue for years. No one, including MINI service techs could figure out what was causing it. I replaced the original coil pack and it disappeared. Problem solved. Hope this helps.
do you replace it for the OEM ? i was thinking on putting a msd coil also with new wires !
I installed the MSD coil pack and wires at 262k miles and the issue completely disappeared. Then a new engine was installed at 266k. The techs replaced the MSD with a new OEM pack that came with the new engine and it works fine as well. So I would guess the original was bad because that long crank issue began way back in 2006 at around 60k miles. It was never a serious problem - just irritating.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but did you ever find out what the problem was? I have similar symptoms, when car is warm it seems hard to start, and also after filling up with gas I get a fuel smell but it seems to be only if it is driven hard right after filling up.
I have the same issue as well; but it doesn't make me want to replace fuel injectors or anything major like that lol. But if it was a simple sensor or even fuel filter, etc, I would fix those. Mine has a long start but once runs it runs flawlessly after replaced plugs. Even if lug it etc so I can't imagine it's the coil, but fuel/injectors sounds more likely, or a sensor reporting bad temp info or something strange, or bad MAP pressure?
