Rich smell to exhaust

One thing I've been noticing is Corsair's exhaust tends to smell a bit rich. It does have a few years and some miles so maybe it just needs the walnut blast or something, but is there something specific that could cause it? I have some Brisk plugs on order, maybe it's just not burning all the fuel properly?

If you're noticing the smell during warm up it's because you're not in closed loop, and the car is on a "warm up" fuel map.

Plugs are not a bad idea to replace, especially if you have a JCW. They are recommended every 36K miles.

Aside from the above you could have a compression test done to see if you have low compression due to carbon buildup, but that is usually accompanied by misfires, hard start, low power, even no start.

Thanks for the info. It does tend to be noticeable on startup, but I'll also often smell it when I shut it off in the garage after driving home.

I'll keep that in mind but no misfires that I can tell, definitely not difficult to start, and power's fine that I can tell (aside from needing a charge after sitting 4 months while deployed).

If you haven't already, as Nick said, replace those plugs. You don't know how old they are and if you have enough miles on it, they're probably worn. Also chances are, a walnut shell blast has never been done. Get it done, you'll be happy you did.

If you're noticing it at start-up, don't worry, the car runs richer and the catalytic converter is not up to temperature. Once the car is at operating temperatures, it would be hard to tell if the car is running rich by smelling it.
