Navigation & AudioAudio upgrades, bluetooth, and navigation discussions surrounding the Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
Hello NAM! I recently bought myself an R56 and ordered a head unit the same day I bought the car. I’m loving the car, and when I got the head unit yesterday, I immediately got to work.
One small issue; there was no sound coming from my speakers at all when I did a test run.
I came to the realization that the iso harness that came with the head unit did not have the connections highlighted in the pictures. I’ve messaged the seller to see if they have an adapter. I am wondering if you guys have any alternative ideas so that I don’t have to send it back in the event the sell doesn’t have an adapter.
Excited to have finally joined, hoping I can get some good input.
So I just learned that I apparently have Fiber Optic sound in my R56. I didn't think that was the case because I don't see any Harman Kardon branding... I need a decoder box to make the system work. Ahhh so much fun lol
If anyone has any good recommendations for a optic decoder that's easy to install, let me know. Car is just sitting in the garage while I try to figure out what the heck im going to do lol
I've figure out what the issue is. The head unit's RCA connections are not connecting to anything on the mini's harness. See pics: If any of you guys has any idea as to how I could rewire this myself (which number pins I would have to wire the RCA connections to) that would help me immensely

I know it's been a while but I just ran into the same problem. Did you ever find a solution for this? I know the seller is going to make me pay for return shipping even though they swore that their unit will work with my HK system in my 2010

If you got it in writing (that the head unit is compatible as is with an R56) and paid for it using a credit card, I'd simply inform them, that:
1. the item sent does not fit the description, i.e. is not what I ordered
2. they got x amount of time to have the correct one delivered to me (where x stands for the original shipping time plus one week out of goodwill)
3. the incorrectly shipped item will be available for collection when the correct item is delivered
4. Failure to deliver the correct item on time will result in destruction of the incorrectly shipped item and a chargeback of the full purchase cost.
But then, I'm based in Germany with possibly different customer protection laws than in your country.
I have the Harman Kardon system but no MOST or optical connections
Sorry to bring up an old thread but after pulling out my radio (MINI BOOST CD), I’ve found that there are no optical connections. Does this mean that I can use an aftermarket stereo and will still get sound out?
I also have the Harman Kardon amplifier in the boot (trunk).
I’m confused because absolutely everything I’ve read on this and other forums is that I should have optical connections.
My car is a 2010 Australian spec R56 LCI.
