Pads & Rotors

I’ve seen a lot of threads, but everyone’s needs seems to be unique. After 25k km on my all4 S my brake sensor went on. I’d like to change my stock rotors at the same times as my pads since they are rusty and whistle a little. I don’t mind doing all 4 corners to get a fresh start. So much sitting and living in the salt belt in canada.

I’m a causal driver of a family hauler. I have the JCW tuning kit on my car and find the oem ok, but not impressed with the life. I’ve got 2 sets of grey rims so dust isn’t a huge deal. I’d really like rotor hats that don’t rust like oem, and I hate brake noise and need it to bite when cold so ceramic isn’t for me.

I find dealer rates a little crazy but I don’t mind spending money for the best option. Any recommendations? Or just stick with OEM? If aftermarket, where do you buy?

I’ve had Akebono pads on my R55 Clibman for the past year or so, and I have been very pleased with them. Great daily driver pad, and MUCH less dust that OEM.

As for rotors, just make sure you get quality coated rotors. Zimmerman rotors from ECS Tuning would be a good option if they will ship to Canada. If you can find something similar local, I would go that option. Rotors are rotors, just get some that are rust coated.

Zimmerman rotors are a good choice!
I had the cross-drilled rotor with Brembo brake pads installed on my MINI F54 S with Goodridge SS brake lines and this setup works perfectly!
Good luck with your choice.

Thank you both. I read great things about Zimmerman so I’ll go that route. I know of Akebono for sure. I’ll check out those options. Did the stainless steel lines improve the brake feel?

I would skip the brake lines. Modern brake lines are built pretty well, such that on a daily driver you won't notice much improvement.

Hey Njaremka, are akebono pads all ceramic? It’s all I can find. I remember you’re a sabres fan too so you must have winter to deal with. Do you find the ceramic doesn’t bite in the cold?

According to their website, they appear to be all ceramic.

I have been very pleased with them for a daily driver pad. They perform very well in the cold.

Thanks for the reply! I don’t put on a lot of mileage, especially these days, so there isn’t a lot of warm up time in the short hauls. I hate a mushy, unresponsive brake pedal,
so nice to have some confirmation they grab in northeastern winter cold
