Shipping Tires & Rims?
Shipping Tires & Rims?
I have a set of four tires and rims for sale and several out-of-town people have asked about shipping them. How do I do this? Do I have to box each one individually or will the UPS ship with them merely bubble wrapped?
one. find a banding tpye mechanism. two, find 6 pieces of heavy cardboard cut in a circle to the size of the tires. three, band two tires together with a piece of cardboard between them and one on the outside of each side. Repeat for the other two wheels/tires. Four, take to UPS.

Tirerack shipped from Indiana to me in Hawaii this way.
They had circular cardboard on each other side and one cardboard with thin foam layers in between the wheels. Don't forget the insurance and write the address on one of the outer sides. Tape it all together with clear strapping tape which comes off rather easily. Two wheels together is fine. Outside of one wheel facing the inside of the other so the rim centers don't touch. Tires inflated to about 32 psi. UPS or FedEx will take them.
I usually put both faces to the center to make sure they dont get scratched in shipping, some wheels you cant thogh becasue they will touch.
The above methods are great for shipping wheels, but here is another way to do it without the bands which can be a pain in the but. You can go to any office depot staples and get a roll of stretch wrap and wrap the heck out of them, tape on the ups tag and away they go. I have shipped 4 or more sets of wheels this way with no problem at all.
what you need is
cardboard
stretch wrap ( or you can use the straps or both )
tape

Also you can usually go to a local tire shop, ie Discount Tire and see if they have any of the boxes that their rims come in, thats if you are sending them separate of the tires.
