Seat in

I installed my Cobra Suzuka GT seat this weekend. I used the Cobra low seat mount and a Planted technology base. The seat is rather comfortable for what it is, however I ordered the thinker back cushion hoping to get a little lumbar support. I installed three anchor supports, two anti-submarine and one inside lap belt. I used the stock location for the outside lap belt. The GT is a good fit for my size of 6’, 185lbs, and 34” waist. I need to work on the roll bar, one for safety, secondly I want the shoulder harness to be mounted at the proper angle. It’s currently mounted in the rear seat anchor points.

I will miss the heated seats, but I’d rather feel planted in the driver seat. Thought about removing the elements until I ran across a thread showing they are embedded in the OEM foam.

Any recommendations on shifters? I currently have a craven speed at the max height and a OEM ball. With the seat bolstering I have to shift differently and I’d actually like to have a higher stick. I was thinking of changing the ball for a taller cylinder style, but that may just be a bandaid.

I’m brainstorming ideas on the lightest way to go on making the floor flat. I’m thinking the thinnest diamond pate aluminum with styrofoam as support for the void to bring it level to were the carpet was.

Im going to remove the radio and HK system and will attempt to removing wiring in whole.

Mats

European racers all use the CoolerWorx shifter. Expensive but evidently worth it. Looks like track-only. Why are you worried about floor mats?

1. Get a CAE, Coolerworx is an inexpensive knockoff. CAE is quality. It costs more, but it is worth it. CAE has refined their design since Coolerworx reverse engineered it, so it is improved.

2. Those shoulder harnesses are dangerous. They should not exceed -20 degrees from horizontal. It's literally in the installation/operating instructions that came with your harness.

@cooper48 , floor mats may seem like a luxury, but you don't want your feet sliding. I have grip tape on the floor of my track car.

Edited to add: you're tall like me (I'm 6'3). I cut out the rear seat support so that I could bolt the seat mounts directly to the floor. I'm low and lower is better in a track toy.
There are some photos in here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...he-making.html

6"3" 200lbs. Plenty of head room.

Thanks Scotty. I’ll check that out. Is the R56 floor flat or is it like the R53 with the subframe bolts and uneven floor? Good idea about the grip tape. If I could get lower that would be great. I know about the harnesses, I just anchored them there to see how the harness fit. My priority is getting a proper roll bar build after I get the seating in a permanent position.

air bag light. I went around and put 3.3 ohm resistors in all the air bag plugs and still have the light on. I had a bunch of codes, but I’m down to two, the driver and passenger seat belt buckle. Any ideas?

BTW, anyone living in the SoCal area interested in the HK system PM me.

Our floors are nearly identical, subframe bolts and all. The grip tape works well. I was going to make a floor plate, but tape worked so well I just stick with it.

I used NCS Expert to code out all of the airbags. There is some info in the linked build thread. I had to dig around on some BMW groups to figure out what stuff to turn off. Take a look at what would have to be adjusted on an E36 or E46.

I did buy the Link stand alone ecu and Jan from RMW is going to tune it one I get the new timing chain, sprockets, injectors, and cam in. I wonder if they could just be coded out. I’ll have to ask.
I started skining through your thread and I appreciate the time and effort you put into posting your experiences.
I bought a can of freeze it today after seeing a video of it making quick work of the sound deadening material, but it didn’t seem to work for me. I guess I’ll be using the ole heat gun and spatula method to remove it.

Thanks man! The heat made it so easy. I used a little goo gone to clean up the excess at the end.

I bought some 3.3ohm resisters and mini fuses to get the airbag light off. I was successful in all the airbag, but the seat belts are all that’s remaining. I have two plugs remaining , one is for the heat pads and the other is for the buckle. It has 4 wires on the driver side and three on passenger. I’ve tried wiring it horizontally and diagonally without success. Do I need a different size resistor for the buckles?
