Interior/Exterior Racing Seat: Cobra Misano R
Racing Seat: Cobra Misano R
Hey everyone! Just wanted to post my latest install. I know when I was looking for a racing seat, I searched these threads to see what people had and how they did it. Hopefully, this thread can help anyone thinking of getting a racing seat.
Seat:
Cobra Misano R (Blue)

Installation Key Points:
·To avoid triggering the SRS light:
- Disconnect the battery before you start and do not reconnect until you are done!
- Unclip all 3 of the seat wiring harnesses (Yellow, Blue, Black).
- Unbolt the seat belt clip from the OEM seat and fish the wiring out.
- Cut the yellow SRS harness clip off the OEM seat leaving a couple inches of wire left over.
- Buy (2) 10ohm resistors and wire them up in parallel to the 2 wires from the yellow SRS clip. 1/R = 1/10ohm + 1/10ohm = 1/5 => R=5ohms. Soldering required.
- Once the new seat is installed, clip all 3 wiring harnesses back to the car.
· If you do not follow the same procedure and the SRS light comes on, the only way to reset it is to have a trained technician clear it for you.
· The OEM seat belt clip is reusable on the Cobra Misano Seat. A custom ¼” spacer is needed between the clip and seat. Washers can also be used.
· I fabricated my own mounting bracket, so I didn’t have to use the 13 pound slider and adapter bracket. Custom bracket < 2 lbs.
· Many thanks to: Randy Webb’s racing seat “How to”. Eric @ Helix for the resistor recommendation of 5ohms.

I wish I could get another one! A buddy of mine needed to get rid of it, so I took it off his hands for a smokin' deal. I'm not sure if I can find another one in the same color and cloth/suede material.
I Autox religiously (SCCA & BMWCCA), so the seat was for function rather than form. I didn't weigh the seat, but I've read that it's around 20 lbs.

It's funny you said that 'cause don't most ricers like to put matching race seats in their cars for the looks rather than racing? Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind getting another seat for the extra weight savings, but it's not worth $1600!

I can't remove the passenger seat due to the SCCA STX rules. I wish I could afford another $1600 seat to match, but I can't. I actually use the seat for racing, not as an aesthetic piece to match.

$1600 could have gotten you two very high end race seats. Not that it may matter, but as some here know I have personal issues about things being called "race" when they would never pass as such ..
Yes, you need to listen to Greg here! He knows everything there is to know about "race" products. Kind of like how my cage/belt set-up wouldn't pass at any "real" sanction body
.
But as much as I like to dig on you, your right about this. An adjustable back seat will not pass as road race ready. AutoX is all good though.

.... but it's not a "race" seat really anyway. It may look racy, but don't think in any way that this seat is a race seat.

I like the seat, I think it would be a 100% functional seat for Solo Racing and the possible weight saving's is huge. Nothing more is needed, I mean how funny would that look running an autocross with a full race suit and hans device. lol Road racers just don't understand if a piece of equipment is not designed for their use. :-) J/K of course, I hope to do some road racing next season in addition to autocross, and yeah, I'll have a different seat, helmet, hans device etc.... :-)
I don't have anything against the tuner crowd one bit. However, I don't think this seat is solely designed for bling.
The seat is firm and sturdy. The seat does an excellent job keeping my body from sliding from side to side. This was my main concern when getting this seat. I must admit, catching fire during my autocross was the least of my worries
I participate in SCCA & BMWCCA autocross and if that's not considered racing, than I don't know what is. I'm not saying that my seat is the best for all types of racing. All I know is, I autocross and this seat does exactly what I need it to do.
