Hub Rings?

I just got my new Rotas When i asked the guy on the phone the other day he said that it looked like I WONT need hub rings for them, which sort of suprised me. SO, I go in today to pick them up and I ask again and this time the answer changed! So, my question is can harm be done by driving on these for a few days without the hub rings until I can get them off of tirerack?

hub centric rings help to center your wheel on the brake rotor hub. Without the rings (i.e. if the wheel's center hole is larger than the hub's center) you may not be able to properly align them on the hubs. This will result in an imbalance and a terrible shimmy in your vehicle at speed. If all goes well, you may be able to drive without the rings, but if the manugacturer recomends them, get them.

I wouldn't do any "spirited" driving without the hub centric rings, but they should be fine for regular driving for a few days. Once the lug bolts are tightened, the wheel shouldn't move. The hub centric rings make it much easier to mount the wheel, and hold it in place under heavy lateral forces.

Not sure if tirerack sells one that fit the Rota, but you can also try here too.

Unless you're going to auto-x them the plastic ones should work just fine.
My Kosei's in the past had plastic rings and they worked just fine.

My Pro5 in the past had ADR's without hubcentric rings and I drove that
car for months without any issues.

Hub Rings

If there is any "slop" in the way your wheel snugs on the hub, go to a machine shop and have them make your four round shims to install inside the wheels; and a tool to tap the hub centering ring into place.

I got my hub centric rings from Les Schwab in Livermore. They had the correct size in stock.

I'm sure there's one in the South Bay.

I got 17 inch Tenzo Racing Passion-5 Rims on my MCS. I rode them on my Mini for a couple of days before I actually got the hub rings with no problems. My advice just get them but don't wait too long to get it.

Great look. What did the custom centering rings end up costing?
