Hot weather boost loss?

I think this is normal but want to make sure. Lately with the weather getting hot and humid instead of getting 16-18 lbs of boost I’m getting no more than 14. Is this normal?

Air density. Cold air is denser, therefore there are more molecules per cubic foot. That's why the supercharged S has a cold air intake. Takeoff roll is longer on a hot day and considering additional variables, could require adding flaps.

What do you mean by flaps? I already have a 60mm Airtek intercooler

Flaps increase the camber of the airfoil in turn increasing the lift coefficient. Warmer air being less dense reduces the airfoil's capacity to lift thus an increased takeoff roll.

This has nothing to do with flying??

Flying, engine air intake all have to do with the variables of air temperature. The example is that cold air is denser than hot air thus amplifying the combustible mixture entering the combustion chamber. It's a bigger world than just what's under the bonnet.

While most of us know about cold air being more dense than hot air, I think your airfoil analogy with respect to what is under the hood just went under our heads. This IS a car forum..

To answer your question alconk, yes it is normal for a decrease in boost with Hotter less dense air during the warmer months. To add more insult, we tend to turn our AC's on which also decreases power... :(

Completely normal. Warmer less dense air has an increased knock rate on the car. When the ECU sees this it reduces boost to compensate and decrease the knock. On my Neon Srt-4 before adding water/meth injection o would see on average 4-8 less psi of boost on really hot days. By adding the meth injection I was able to eliminate the boost loss. I plan to add water/meth injection to my R56 at some point.

I'm curious as to how you're creating 18 lbs. of boost, particularly when you have a larger intercooler. What are your mods?

I have a 16% under drive sc pulley and a 2% crank overdrive pulley

Do they have a kit for the r53 and how does that work? I mean is it sprayed over the intercooler?
