R56 Turbo "after oil kit" aka spool down kit
Turbo "after oil kit" aka spool down kit
Thank you in advance !
Does anyone have experience with an after oil kit on a R56 w/ N14 motor ?
I found a universal kit and am solving for the install components and best location if someone has
done this already. Additionally, if someone has tried it and it has created problems or throwing code
I would love the beta...Thx

edit.....it’s coolant running through the turbo.

A screeching sound ain't right. I would suspect total turbo failure if I started hearing a screeching noise.
The factory system circulates coolant through the turbo to help reduce temperatures. The old school turbo timers would basically do the same thing. Can't say I've ever heard of a turbo timer performing an oil circulation...
are you talking about a kit for after you turn the car off and it keeps running the oil cooler for a set time? If so, the N14 does this already from the factory. When you shut the car off, if you walk up to the hood you should here it in there for a min or 2, i havent timed it.

I knew it was one of them, hence why we don’t need the turbo timer. I too am learning.
As long as you keep up with your oil changes you should be fine with just the Auxiliary water pump. If you neglect your oil changes too much and you drive you mini hard you will cook the oil in the turbo bearings. The older turbo timers just kept the motor running for a certain amount of time after you turn off the car and lock the doors. I ran one in my SRT 4 as they don't have an auxiliary water pump or anything like that. Alternatively you can just sit in your car and let it idle for a couple minutes before shutting if off and going about your business.

What I learned from this past weekend of driving from Cincinnati to Pigeon Forge, then all my tail of the dragon and moonshine 28 runs, with the outside temps being 90+ degrees and high humidity and running my ac on max, my water temps tended to stay around 188 and oil stayed under 200. When cruising on highway at 85+ mph temps were water 180 and oil 188. They ran a bit higher while one the dragon, but stayed under 200 on both, but there was some high rpm, keeping up with vettes, driving going on. Burned less than a 1/4 qt of oil this whole weekend, and I was cold doing it. I have had a weekend like this before and burned a whole qt but I know my ac wasn’t full tilt and I know my temps where water 220-224 and oil temps of 237. One my dragon runs I always stop at either the store or lookout for a 10 min cool down, shell 93 only, same castrol edge 5w-40 and purflux filters, only difference was ac on full.
With my tune, my coolant target is always 180°F
For some unknown reason neither Manic nor RPM managed to make that work for me. Same with the removal of the cold start/cat preheat routine, supposed to be gone, yet there it is.
Interesting...
