Weak Low Beams

My '06 has HIDs but they are very weak. Can I test them somehow to make sure the voltage is correct? Or can I convert them in order to use LED bubs? I own a voltmeter but I'm not that knowledgeable about electrical components. So if you suggest testing the voltage please be very specific on how to do that. Thank you.

When the xenon bulbs get old they get dull and more pink, I did my R52 xenon bulbs with new ones and they improved a bunch. Do them in pairs. If the ballast go bad one will not turn on or fire up.

They take a DS2 Bulb, ~4300k is stock, i went with 4500K morimoto ones.

I appreciate the response. My low beams have never been bright even with brand new bulbs. I have HIDs in my Kia and they are much brighter than the Mini. That's why I wondered about the voltage. Could the ballasts be bad? They both appear to be working normally.

Could be the cloudness of the headlight or a weak connection. Ballast usually both dont go bad at the same time. They flicker and then fail. Not really weak. What bulbs did you use, i seen some amazon aftermarket ones that were dim.

The ballasts are fine. There is no flickering at all. And the headlights are not cloudy. These are the bulbs I am using. They were installed new and have not been used much at all. This car is not my daily driver so it sits in the garage most of the time.

So you have factory HID headlights and bought bulbs from a HID upgrade kit and just used the D2S bulbs, some of those No-Name bulbs from ebay and amazon are very poor in quality and burn out quick. Ones we carry are good. All i can think is swap them and see what changes.

The facelift HIDs are actually quite good with a proper bulb. And the Morimoto bulbs are excellent.

It is not a kit. Just the bulbs. What color temp works the best? I’ve seen the Morimoto bulbs in 5500k. Would that be good?

Higher the K the more blue in color.

So my .02 of you want just the color go for the morimotos best bang for buck in my opinion. But if you want bright HID's you'll need Osram's or Philips'. In my opinion anything over about 7k aren't the best for light output or in adverse weather. Sadly with HID bulbs you get what you pay for usually.
