Found a set of LED 76w Cree HI/LOW headlamps, less than 40 bucks, shipped from China. Took almost a month to get. Plugged them in and....they work! I did adjust my headlights down a bit, as they seemed a bit high. The high beams don't seem to be much brighter than the lows, but the lows are very nice and bright! If I get a lot of folks high-beaming me, I will go back to halogens. But for now, very nice lights! I have a bulb-out warning for my LED driving and DRL's, so not sure if these will turn that warning on or not....
I've been looking into LED headlights for my wife's Countryman fitted with Halogen reflectors. I also ordered a set of canbus drivers ahead but have a few concerns about these types of bulbs and I've got a few questions if you don't mind.
Would you be able to upload some pics of the lights shining on the road?
How would you compare the brightness result compared to halogens?
The unit you've ordered appears to be an all-in-one unit where the driver is integrated with the entire aluminum unit is this correct?
Thanks in advanced!! Would love to upgrade my wife's car as she's been concerned about the lack of lumens with halogens.
Pics: I need to figure out how to upload pics here. I am a bit computer-challenged.
Brightness: I would say that the brightness of the lows is quite a bit better than the stock halogens, even with better bulbs. The LED color is a HUGE improvement (no more yellow), and matches my LED DRL and fog lights. The high beams are NOT as bright or far-reaching as I would have hoped, and probably do not reach as far out as the stock halogens with better bulbs did, but they seem to give more side-illumination, which is very nice. Both low and high beams seem to pick up reflective signs and road markings much better than the halogens did. I did adjust the headlights down some, in order to avoid glare to oncoming drivers. I guessed at the downward adjustment on my garage door at about 15 feet away. Since then, I have adjusted the headlights back up a bit, and no drivers have "high-beamed" me yet to let me know my lows are annoying. I may just go up a tiny bit more....
Construction: Yes, one piece units. Plug and play. I found that they were a bit difficult to plug into the factory harness, but they did eventually plug in firmly. It was quite cold here when I installed, so might not have been such an issue if the weather had been warmer.
One other note: I do indeed get a bulb-out warning SOMETIMES, but not always. Never right away. Usually ONLY after the highs have been on for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Seems totally random. I do find that a bit odd.
I figured they were worth a shot at about $40.00. I am not disappointed, although the highs could stand to have more forward "reach". I may remedy this with some LED driving lights if I can figure a way to have those come on only with the high beams.
Hope this helps!

renchjeep: thanks for your input! I am surely going to buy LED lights for the 2012 countryman and it's just a matter of which one now. The one you got shows the light output was max 4000lm per bulb at 38 watts. Which is supposed to be relatively good considering the stock halogens generally output 1600lm. However considering the intensity and throw it did worry me to begin with as LEDs don't focus as well their light to the road as incandescent a can but I believe technology has been coming along quite well. With that said, your hi/low bulb means maybe that the low beams will output just 2/3 of the maximum lumens leaving it possibly just 2600lm per bulb for the low beam in theory. I am considering those 55 watt and 5200lm/bulb and hopefully get 3400lm on the low output. Only issue I find is that there isn't any all-in-one bulb available on the market today. The driver being used should fit in the housing all together on the countryman I guess so I imagine it would be ok. That's it, I think I have made up my mind and will take the plunge.....only issue is the long wait time for delivery!
It was just under a month to get mine, IIRC. And, you are right about the 2/3. There are 3 LED panels on each "bulb", and lows activate 2, highs activate all 3. Once you install them, you will clearly see this. I am very happy with the lows and the color of light output overall. As I said, the color is nice, and picks up reflectors on road signs and marking very well. The highs? Pretty good, and give a lot of side illumination. The highs could use a bit more forward reach, but so far, so good! Keep me (and all of us) posted with your findings. Without going for the upgraded factory HID kit for $1200.00, or the Spyder lights, I figure this to be the best way to go. I have still not been able to confirm that the Spyder lights maintain high beams, or just flash-to-pass.
With lunar new year being Mon Feb 8th, everyone in China is out of the office for about a weeks time. I guess I should expect mine in about 5 weeks time rather! Still haven't decided totally on which brand/model I want as the variety is so much nowadays and the output isn't always as they claim... Amazon has great reviews on Opt7 brand but I'm in Canada and those folks don't ship cross border...

I've pulled the gun and made my order locally! The bulbs shipped and came to me in about 2 days. I finally got around to plugging them into the 2012 Countryman with halogen/reflector headlights. The results are amazing! The brightness is far better and the colour temperature is white!
For all your reference you can view the video dash cam capture off the vehicle uploaded to
Please view with discretion as the footages captured were of two separate days and the little bit of snow on the ground doesn't make any difference to the results as seeing the brightness of the bulbs shine on to the ground is telling you what a difference it makes. Also see the reflection of the light off the vehicle which is parked across the street from me as a comparison.
I will try to make another video of the two sets of lights filmed on the same day with the same amount of moon lighting to do a better comparison. Unfortunately I didn't plan my filming thoroughly.
Oh and I ordered the 12,000 lumens one... I thought since I'm going to purchase, I might as well go all out on the highest claimed brightness on the market today. The cost of the kit was $89.95USD + shipping. Cree XHP technology.

Don't know why the listing says the price it is at now, but it was for $89.95 and I believe you can find other sellers in the states that sell this exact item. I am in Canada so mine was purchased from this seller in Canada.
Pretty much looks like the same kit. How are you liking the high-beams? I am not impressed with the forward reach of the highs. Like I said, seems to illuminate more on the sides than straight forward. Loving the color! It matches the LED's in my drl and fogs very nicely.

The high beams aren't throwing the lights as far as I would like however living in the urban city areas they are hardly ever needed so I guess I can live with it as it is. I am more concerned with the low beams though and yes, there is a little adjustment needed to aim the lights correctly but I'm really glad that the beam output isn't scattered and the light on the ground concentration is pretty good. And as for the brightness and throw, it is most certainly a major improvement over all older technology and especially compared to halogen bulbs.
Not sure how close to 6000lm per bulb it is as they claim but I am satisfied with the light output results for the money spent. I know a bunch of them eBay HID kits are inexpensive nowadays but the scattered beam pattern really is disappointing on them so I wouldn't mind investing in something with better light output. Now let's see how long this technology will last for...

Hi there. With the kit that you bought, were there any errors thrown at you from the car? Did you add a resistor or just used what came with the kit?

Yes, there was a headlight bulb-out error on the dash each time the vehicle starts. It occasionally throws a bulb-out error for the high-beams as well. I have ordered a Canbus Error-Canceler adapter but that item is currently still on the way over to me from China. I have ordered the product the first week of February however it was Chinese New Year there so the order processing was completely delayed until the 3rd week of February. I have a feeling I'll receive the item closer to the middle of March to the end of March. I will most definitely post an update if that completely clears the error.
Also, because of the error I believe its also the reason for the mild flickering during the vehicle startup & I've heard that the Canbus Error-Canceler will correct it all. Will update...

Thanks for the prompt response! From what I understand, the bulbs flicker because the car checks the bulbs on startup by sending a current to them, but because LEDs draw less current, they flicker as opposed to halogens which won't. I've installed LEDs for my driving lights, side scuttles, and reverse lights, and they all flicker on startup. Looks kind of cool to me but I'm always paranoid about cops getting the wrong idea.

Yep, the bulbs flicker when it runs through the bulb checks. I have ordered several LED bulbs for the DRL, and license plates however I chose Canbus in hopes that it won't flicker & won't get a bulb-out elsewhere either.
Welp. I received the Canbus about 2 weeks ago and tested them out. It sucks.
The decoders that I got acted strange to the car. On startup of the car, the high beams are lit up for about 10 seconds then it drops down back to low beams. Once I start driving for a while the bulbs would randomly go to high beams again and then back to low! Then after driving a while (30 minute commute) one of the bulbs shut off and throws an error message! As soon as I got to my destination, I yanked them out and went back to the original route without the Canbus. The dash will throw an error message during each startup and a "pulsing" happens at the beginning and I'll live with that for now. As for the canbus it didn't work. I'm not sure if it's because the adapter leads into one unit and it is controlling it but doesn't quite decode it well. I have to say that the last option I have is a H13 resistor adapter to simulate the wattage consumed and cancel the error. See the attached of the item I have purchased.
