During my rebuilds, one thing I noticed consistent with the R56 (perhaps others too) was the annoying dash rattle when going over bumps or rough spots in the road. You can take your fist and lightly bump on the top of the dash and you’ll hear what I’m talking about. It’s obviously the top dash pad hitting against some piece of the dash structure, so when I had the pad out to investigate, I decided to cover any piece that made contact (or very closely contacted) between the top pad and the sub-structure.
I used a combination of the following two products I found on Amazon.
- Cloth tape, commonly used to wrap wiring and keep them quiet from rattles.
I highlighted the areas in red to mark where I applied the tape. The spots on the edges I used the Cloth tape, the spots in the middle and on top of the interface box I used the foam tape.
All is quiet now. You have to disassemble a fair amount of the dash to get the top pad off, but it’s definitely work having a non-rattle dash.
If you need some help getting the top pad off, PM me and I’ll be happy to help.
