Interior/Exterior Dash Cover Rattle
Dash Cover Rattle
Last time I was at the dealer I asked them to fix a rattle in the dash. Some time after that I noticed a lump of black sticky glue at the junction of the windshield and the dash cover, right in plain view. It took me awhile to figure out this was the rattle fix the dealer had perfromed. Last weekend I removed the black lump of glue with and the rattle is back.
I want to try to fix the rattle without a visable black goo gob on the dash. Can I insert a foam weather strip under the dash cover? Does the dash cover come off without much trouble? Any help is appreciated.

The dash rattle repair method they use at the local MINI dealer here, requires the use of a series of felt pads placed underneath the dash, that alleviate the rattling.
I've never heard of the black goo method.
That sounds kind of suspect.

It's *really* easy to remove the top of the dash and investigate yourself.
There are two torx 25 screws on either side of the dash that you need to remove under the panels (pull rubber stripping and gently pry panels out) and two torx 25 screws right near the dash illumination control and hazard lights.
You can use some self-adhesive felt tape and cover up suspect spots.
Really easy......

Fixed Dash Rattle
I used a foam gap filler product. Looks like a foam dowel rod 5/8"diameter, used to fill large gaps prior to using chaulk. Cut a piece to fix entire lenght of dash. Pressed in with a wooden kitchen spatula in the space between the windshield and the dash. The color is light gray and it went in without any trouble. No rattles so far.
