Navigation & Audio What are my Nav CD options for upgrade?
Navigation & AudioBring your GPS and favorite CD or MP3. This is where navigation and audio options for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
I have the factory Nav system in my '06 R52....seems to work fine the few times I have used it....one time it didn't work, took me completely off course to where I was supposed to end up. I have the factory disc loaded into the player, it's disc 2006.2
What are my options here as far as doing an upgrade to a newer disc? I can't find one for sale on eBay or anywhere else..at least none that I can afford
What would be the next upgrade disc number?
I read that a BMW disc will work, but it will say BMW in the screen instead of MINI ....(true or false?)
I also read that the 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen disc's will not work in the 1st Gen cars because of the system being integrated with the radios...(true or false?)
Now this next sentence might not sit well with others, but does anyone have the latest updated disc to make a copy of for my car? I made a copy of mine just to see if it could be done and it does work when I put the copy into the changer.......
I'm still working on doing the Chrono Pac swap into my car, but if I decide to sell the car, I want everything working and up to date as possible
Search on eBay for "High" format DVD Nav maps for MINI or BMW (not "Professional" or "CCC" format). Like this. BTW, at some point North America maps got split into two DVD discs (east and west).
The final map version available for the Nav system on 1st gen MINI is 2015 (they stopped publishing updates).

Yea....I saw that the US was split into two sections.....the west of the US is also incorporated with Canada and Alaska....not a good move I think....thanks for the link and also for letting me know that the last update was 2015
So was what I read correct saying that the BMW discs will say BMW on my nav screen instead of MINI???
I think the last single disc was 2009. I’m almost positive I purchased a 2009.1 BMW disc because MINI discs are a lot harder to find and more expensive when you do. I know for sure the MINI splash screen still comes up on my system though, so I’ll try to confirm sometime this week if it is a BMW disc.
I read a post that said the difference between the brands was when you go into the menu system to look for dealers, or when a dealer is highlighted on the map, a BMW dealer instead of a MINI dealer is listed or shown.

If you could confirm either way about the splash screen logo....if the BMW discs are compatible with our NAV systems, I don't really care what logo comes up on the screen, it's not there for very long anyway.....and, if I decide to sell the car, the original blue disc that I posted above will go with the car anyway
The startup screen (with logo) is in the firmware, not the map disc (and you can customize the startup screen by hacking the firmware installer disc).
Everything is interchangeable between BMW and MINI nav systems (map discs, Nav hardware unit, and firmware). The only difference between the BMW and MINI map discs is the dealership list.

I bought this 2012 2-disc set from eBay....he sold them to me at a very good price.....they should be here in a few days. I'm going to make a copy of each disc and use those in the car, just in case there's some imperfections on the original ones
well, the eBay seller screwed me over on that 2 disc set from 2012.....he sent me the one 2012 disc of the western United States and Canada....but the other disc was a 2005 version...which is older than my car itself.....his auction was stated in such a way that I thought I was getting both 2012 disc set.....nope....I even contacted him to express my dis-satisfaction ....he basically said too bad, it was clearly stated in the auction. I looked, and yes it was..in small print hard to find.....so I'm out the money I sent him, he charges a 15% restock fee if he accepts my return....I might list the single 2012 disc in the classifieds soon.....unless someone here wants to make me an offer for it and the 2005 disc as well.....
On another note, I did find a matched set of 2015 NAV discs for under $10....covers all US States & Canada.....so I bought those the other day
I got my brand new 2 disc set for the NAV system today....it's the 2015 edition, covers all the US States, including Alaska & Hawaii, all of Canada, Puerto Rico, & Mexico.....I made copies of each disc to use in the car, I will put the new OE discs back in the package and put them away. If I sell the car, the new OE discs will go with it.
I'm still working on the Chrono Pac swap....once I get that working, I will keep the OE NAV system that came with the car...I will give both the Chrono Pac and the NAV system to the next owner of the car if and when we decide to sell it

Can you please post the eBay seller’s info? I need the upgraded nav disks as well. What is the Chrono Pac? Thank you!
The last version of maps were readily available on torrent, and you could burn them to DVD-R or DVD+R yourself. Most maps you buy on eBay are burned discs btw.
