2015 R60 Key fob battery replacement

Hi All,

I searched for an answer in the forums but wasn't able to find one. I have a 2015 R60 Countryman and the key fob will not lock and unlock the doors, however, the car starts fine. I've been trying to find out what battery I need. From what I've read, the batter is rechargeable. I am seeing some posts say the key fob is sealed and the battery can't be replaced. My key fob has a removable panel on the back. I've removed the panel and the batter is in the panel that is removed. The side of the battery that is visible does not have any writing on it. I don't want to take the battery out of the seat because I'm afraid it will then not start the car and I will be stranded at WORK. I certainly don't want that!

Does anyone know for SURE what battery I need? Where I can buy one? Can the battery be replaced without reprogramming the key fob?

Thank you!

Minion

I'd get the expensive ones from the local store over the cheap ones in bulk from amazon. at least for this. the cheap ones have their uses, but getting locked out of your car isn't worth saving $3.

Thank you y8s,

Would taking out the old battery cause the key fob to loose its reprogramming?

I bought a 10 pack of name brand from Amazon. They last about a year. Just pop the metal key out and open your door, why would you be locked out?

Hi Guys, my 2015 countryman key fob lock button doesn’t work. I’ve changed the battery so that’s new, it unlocks and works no problem but it won’t lock.
is there anyway to open this key fob?

I usually go to YouTube when I need help on things like this. I seem to remember seeing a good presentation of the R53 & R60 Key FOB battery replacement. Personally, I hate the whole design, as I much prefer the Start button on my F56 JCW over the R60 FOB design.

Thanks for the reply. It’s not the battery as I’ve replaced that. The lock button doesn’t work but the unlock button and trunk button work fine. I put a new cr2032 battery in and it’s fresh. Something is wrong with the lock button and I wanted to access the circuit board area of the fob but I can’t open the casing. Guessing that it’s sealed!

Take ring off. Find the seam between the two halves, and use a utility knife to cut thru the seal holding the halves together.
