DME Imobilizer Seed Reset 2004 R53
DME Imobilizer Seed Reset 2004 R53
Let me start by saying I am my own worst enemy. I've been chasing the dreaded P2096 on my 2004 pre-facelift R53 and it went sideways. I have an aftermarket header and high flow Cat so that's the real cause of the code. Anyhow after researching fixes etc. I came to the conclusion I needed to reset the Adaptations in the DME. I have INPA, NCS, etc. so I dove in head first. If you have read any of the posts about this stuff the first thing everyone says is to maintain adequate voltage during the process. We'll during my tinkering with the laptop my Battery Charger timed out and I did not notice. Before long a lot of really strange things started happening, light flickering, gages bouncing, think auto evil spirit possesion, real pucker time. I figured out, with the help of NAM what the issue was and got the voltage back where it needed to be. Awesome, except now the MINI won't start. Everything looks normal she cranks, etc. but no fire. Remember my first statement... So I determine the immobilizer is tripped. I try to reset, learn the seed in the DME, no joy. I try different things with the EWS, no joy. By the way at this point I'm pretty sure I could have bricked everything. Now the point of this post. I'm not sure why I did this other than frustration and giving anything a shot. I did not find this tidbit in any forum here or BMW, and it may be just dumb luck. When trying to reset the Seed in the DME with INPA I turned the key to Start and she fired right up, been starting and running fine for a couple of weeks now. Still throwing P2096 but hey that's another day.
I have no idea if this well help anyone or not and certainly proceed at your and your MINI's own risk.
