Timing chain replacement on r50

Hi everyone I’m in the middle of rebuilding my r50 out of an 02’. The head is at the machine shop getting a rebuild. Is it necessary to have the cam lock tool to reinstall the new timing components. Being a single cam, it looks like it can be done without. The only obstacle I see is tightening the cam gear. Opinions would be appreciated thanks

The tool makes it super easy, but it just locks the cam to tighten the cam bolt. So if you can hold the cam and torque the cam bolt to spec you are fine.
