USB Stereo Options for HK in '06 Justa?
This is the stereo in my wife's '06. It has the HK speakers and amp. The bluetooth phone thing is an add on from the dealer (previous owner spent a lot of money to get that) There is an old 30pin ipod connector in the glovebox.
I actually have an old ipod Nano that works. sort of..... It won't charge through the cable and control is clunky. You have to make 6 playlists that the stereo will treat as 6 cds in a cd changer (car doesn't have a cd changer)
I would like to add usb functionality so that she can just plug in a thumb drive full of music. Anyone familiar with my options? I've seen the GROM but I'm not super exited about the $150 price tag.
I also saw this: http://a.co/d/gXH1Fqo That's a little better at $70 but the picture of the radio doesn't look exactly like ours. It says it's for a "boost" radio. Do I have a "boost" radio or something else? How do you tell?
I would be willing to disconnect either the ipod cable or the bluetooth phone in order to make this work.
Any knowledge or help greatly appreciated!
My understanding is that that would mean replacing everything. Head unit, amp and all speakers. I'll probably dust off the cd burner before going that route.
Do you still have it and are you using it now that you've ditched the HK system entirely?
New door speakers
Sub and amps
New crossovers for the new speakers.
New 6x9s
I don’t think any aftermarket interface for a thumb drive won’t be clunky for navigating through your music with the factory radio. Adding the factory aux-in will let you connect a music player or phone from the headphone or aux-out jack and control the music selection directly from the source. The factory aux kit is about $35.
Also, your ‘06 radio should be able to read an mp3 disc so you can probably get a lot more than an hours worth of music on it depending on compression. Not sure if you can have folders, if any track info like song titles will display, or if you can navigate through the music easily, though.

I still don't even know what stereo I have... I see people referring to "boost" and "wave" but have no idea what that means or how to tell.
This should be it, but you can double check with ECS to make sure it will work with the Bluetooth interface already installed in your car as it might use the same connections at the back of the radio: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/82110153367/ They’re a vendor here on NAM so you can send him a PM.
Here’s a link to the Boost CD manual: http://libraryofmotoring.info/pdf/ma...dioboostcd.pdf
The same Boost unit is used for both the HK and regular stereo systems. The HK settings just get “unlocked” when connected to the HK amp in the system. Also, sometime around March 2005 the radios could play MP3 CD’s so yours should work for that. I just read that you can create separate folders on the CD and select them like CD’s in a changer by pushing the “M” button, then using the arrows. It will display generic labels though, and not what they’re actually named.

Ended up ordering this: http://a.co/d/h1Yh5ua
Works just fine for AUX in. Unfortunately it takes up the spot that the bluetooth phone connection does. I was hoping it would take the spot the ipod interface did.
We don't want to give up the phone connection so... guess we're stuck with the old ipod.
Does anyone need an AUX in cable? Also have the Garmin Nuvi 360 for the MINI if anyone's interested. Repurposed the spot for a phone holder.

It still might work because that's a 12 pin connector and the aux only uses three of the pins. If this is the correct pin diagram for your radio in post #2, then you can posssibly transfer the wires from your aux cable to the factory connector as it shows different pins for the phone and aux: https://www.mini2.com/forum/first-ge...3-r53-nav.html
However, it still might not work as that Amazon cable isn't a factory aux cable so the pins might not be removeable, or lock into the MINI connector the same way. If the connections can be transfered, but you have issues with the aftermarket cable wiring, then buying a genuine MINI aux cable should work.

Haven't tried to remove the wires from the a connector like this before. Any tips? The inner piece did slide out from the side of the outer jacket of the aftermarket connector.
Edit: I did get the pins out of the aftermarket connector. Now to see if I can get them in the MINI

Well, with huge thanks to @RB-MINI, I now have AUX in for the factory stereo!
It was not without some wailing and gnashing of teeth. I got interrupted in between removing the pins from the connector and installing them in the stereo and I "misremembered" the order of the wires.
I had actually taken a screenshot of the wiring diagram and labeled the wires using windows snip but I didn't save it and an update forced a reboot so I lost it.
Had to bust out the volt meter to determine which was the ground wire. I had white yellow and red and thought the yellow was ground. Turned out red was ground.
Anyway, still have the phone connection, the old iPod connection, and now AUX in and everything works. I now know a lot more about those little connections and pins too if I ever have to attempt such a thing again.

Everything I search on says I have to disconnect the cd changer from stereo which I do not have and I can not find anything that has info about how the serius xm is connected to the stereo any suggestions?
Also I would like to mention the mods I have done to the system as it may make a difference to why it does not work
MODS
Installation of an aftermarket amplifier
Connected the missing speaker channels for the rear hook up which run directly to the amplifier.
The factory remote wire for the HK amplifier was used to the aftermarket amp but the factory main power wire was not I ran direct from battery same for ground went directly to body/chassis.
I hope to find a solution to get the bluetooth adapter working if any more info is needed please ask and sorry for hijacking this thread
