Welcome to NAM edcalvo - The tire you get should reflect the type of driving you do. What do you want to do and what type of conditions will you be driving in?
i will drive in dry/wet roads, i want that the tyre makes a lot of milles, usually i drive about 75% in highways and 25% in secundary roads driving sportive!!...thank you very much (i´m new and i´m from spain), i´ve got a mini cooper.
I’ve been using the Yoko’s ES100’s. Being if Florida it mostly dry, but we get very hard rain time to time. I also auto-x 11 months of the year. I’ve found these to work very well on regular roads and on the track. You can get better tires for track use, but I want a tire I can drive everyday and also on the track. The Yoko’s have worked very well for that. I’m running on 215/45-17 on my MCS.

tires
EdCalvo, I'm using the falken ziex 512. They are all season performance tires and are made to have longer life than pure performance tires. I'm pleased with them, they are light, give a comfortable ride, stick very well when is dry and so far good in wet conditions. Haven't driven them on snow yet. I tend to drive slower when wet out, it's not the kind of risk I enjoy and I love my car too much. No experience here with the other tires you are considering.
Te recomiendo las falken, buena suerte.

Y bienvenido.

I also like the Yokohama AVS ES100, but I do a lot of track days. They handle well in the rain, but are a bit noisy and are a heavy tire. Since you don't plan on doing a lot of performance driving, you may not get as much benefit from the characteristics of the Yokos. They tend not to last as long, but they have a good price point. Then again, the people for whom they don't last that long tend to be hard drivers, they would most certainly last longer if you weren't always whipping your car around. Good luck!

Hey guys, I basically have the same question as edcalvo-I am running with the R85 mini lites, and I believe those are 205-45-17. I live in Birmingham Alabama, and my driving style is nearly 100% percent back, curvy roads, little highway. I do have some preference for wet traction, but I would say most concentration on dry. I do not care about ride quality or tread life nor sound, but price might be an issue.
Yokos for you!

Yes, but with the 215s I would have to go with a whole new set of wheels, is this not correct? Problem is, I would like to retain the stock R85s for the time being, and i dont think the 215s fit on the R85s.
I have 215/45/17 on the S-lites. My car is lowered and I had a tiny bit of rubbing on the first day, then it went away and hasn't been a problem since.
The only downside (you said noise doesn't matter) is that they are a bit heavy for tires, over 20 lbs each. I originally found the weight at the tire rack site, but just looked and don't remember where I found it. They are about 21-22 lbs each.

Wait what?
Are saying the 215s will fit on the R85s? This would be really cool (extra meat)
I will measure them as soon as I get the chance, (this afternoon). I just didnt think that the 215s would fit because they would be too big.

The ES100’s are 22.5.
The R85, also known as the S-Lite, but it's not light, weighing in around 25lbs. It's a 17 x 7, with an offset of 50.

Before I switched wheels last week I was using the S-Lites and was using 215/45-17's with no rubbing, but I'm not lowered.
