lets talk super charger rebuilds
So I know there are a lot of super charger threads but non have really helped me with making up my mind. i have my super charger out and the pto gears are worn not totally gone but far enough that i wont be putting it back in before rebuilding it or getting a rebuilt one. heres my dilemma. who do i go with I've narrowed it down to 3. Detroit tune, way, or Stiegemeier. I'm leaning toward Detroit tune but haven't really seen any feedback about there rebuilds.
You know deadernie I looked at them and was really leaning that way at one point but to be honest. I didn't like that in the second sentence of his page he takes a shot right across the bow of way motor works. I have no allegiances to way I have never bought any thing from him. I felt that was unprofessional. Also the more I read the more I felt that this guy was pretty darn impressed with himself and that he felt there was no one else on the planet capable of doing the rebuild. I could be completely wrong but to me you shouldn't have to talk badly about the competition to to get business. I was also scared off buy the fact that it seemed like they expected you to pay for the rebuild and then the list of reason you would lose your core made it feel like you had to pay him to rebuild your old one so he could sell it to the next guy. Don't let my feeling's sway you he could in fact be the bees knees of rebuilders.
That guy was a vendor here years back before the days of big time Facebook. Lots of bashing back then, wild west days. Thankfully most have mellowed out that hang around these parts nowadays.

We actually have sent a supercharger and know many customers that have sent them to the guy that does them for him with no good result. As with many re builders it is often a bait and switch. You send a blower in thinking you will get a rebuild for the price advertised, but once they have it in hand they find all this other stuff that isn't part of the "standard" rebuild and tell you it will now be like $1300. The customer then feels stuck because their car is apart and just says do it because they can't wait and already out the shipping money.
We have one of these rebuilds we keep here at the shop as a display because it looks all good, but when you install it won't make more than 10lbs of boost even with a small pulley when it should be making 15+lbs. That poor customer lost all his money and had to buy a whole new blower. When he argued with them he was told it needed to break in then the boost would go up. I'd like to see that happen.
Also who is the judging party that gives out the #1 rebuilder award?
When we started doing rebuilds we sent blowers to several companies and tried them all out as we knew what we did and didn't need. It was amazing what we were told and how most of them said 2 weeks and was always 6-8 weeks.
Way obviously had a bad experience with some sc companies.
I have bought from Way before, and will continue to do so, but my experience with Steigmeier was great.
They sent my sc back to me the day after they got it, and charged me the $800 they quoted for a complete rebuild

So just an update. I decided to go ahead and buy one from way with a 15% pulley and a few other items to complete my mini. It seams like everything decided to go out all at once on me. thank you all for the advice. I now hope once its all back together. I wont have to do anything major under the hood for a while. "knocking on wood". At this pint I have all new front suspension other then the struts. I put in all the gaskets from the conversion set other then the rear main. I'll be putting in new axel seals and repacking the cv axle this week and replacing the power steering hoses and tank. oh yea I forgot the alternator that started all this. Strangely I still love this car.
