I've been lurking on this site since I purchased my R56 about a year ago and I figured it was time to contribute!
My wife and I purchased an R56 as a daily driver / city car since our sports car (370z) couldn't quite do Chicago winters. Mini has an undeniable charm, is a blast to drive and the community is great. We even made it out to Mini on the Mack last year (but didn't quite break the record).
(Mini in the UP).
I've done a few modifications here and there and finally got around to tackling the headlights. The factory lights weren't aging well and I figured that Mini deserved better, so after a lot of research, I picked up a set of Spyder F56 style projectors (Spyder Auto PRO-YD-MC07-DRL-BK to be exact). I've had mixed results with aftermarket headlights in the past, but these are quite nice. I was on the fence for a long time, but I am so glad that I finally went for it! Install was very simple (plug and play apart from having to splice in the DRLs) and the results speak for themselves. To anyone who is thinking about this, just do it, you will be glad you did!
Hi all. I purchased a set similar to this from spyder for the r60/r61 and was looking for a guide to splicing the wiring from the existing daytime running lights. Do any of you have pictures of the wires I should tap? I figure they should be pretty similar.
I know there are a bunch of threads on these HID-PRO-YD-MC07-DRL-BK Spyder headlights but I wanted to share my experience. I installed these this weekend in my 09 R56 JCW and love them. I bought them from ProTuningLabs and with the Xenon retrofit already done, they were very competitively prices compared to other places. PTL Spyder LED DRL Xenon Lights
The installation was very straightforward and the light output is amazing. I bought the additional warning canceler (not completely sure if it was necessary) and have had zero bulb error issues. High beams work in both the flash-to-pass mode and constant on. I wired the LEDs up to the side parking lights and so far I'm very pleased with the results.
I'm waiting on my Ziza LED bulbs from ECS to arrive to get rid of the yellowish position lights. Can't wait!!
